Bombings in Russia

Two bombings over the past two days in Volgograd, Russia, have killed over 30.  Because of the astrology, I warned of the possibility of post-Christmas violence here.  This chart is for midnight between the first and second bombing:  the same configurations apply to both events.  Regular readers know the drill:  mass-murderers (including many politicians) and mass-murder events have charts that conform to the Bloodbath Formula

1.  Pallas trine Pluto and contraparallel Jupiter:  ethics compromised.

2.  Venus decile Neptune and ruled by Saturn which is quindecile South Node:  Venus (property rights including rights to one's own body) liquefied.

3.  Pluto septile Saturn, ruler of Venus:  Destruction (Pluto) of property including human bodies (Venus).

4.  Pluto conjunct Sun.  Days of death, as it were.

5.  Mercury prominent -- conjunct Sun

I expect more violence between now and when Pallas is clear of Pluto and Jupiter.  Pallas represents, among other things, the libertarian non-aggression principle.  When she or her sign ruler is corrupted by Pluto, blocked by Jupiter, and/or drained by the South Node, evil is afoot.  When the other factors in the Bloodbath Formula also come into play, we see lethal and senseless violence.

Rand Paul 2016?

5/1/2015 Note:  after examining election-day transits for Barack Obama in 2004, which are similarly very Neptunian, I am no longer convinced that Paul would necessarily lose a general 2016 election.  I'll refrain from prognosticating on future elections until I've had time to study the subject in detail.

Conservative icon Rand Paul has proven himself in a short period of time to be both more principled than virtually all of his colleagues in the US Senate -- and also adept in surfing the waves of public opinion in ways that his pure-libertarian father Ron Paul is not.  In addition, unlike his fellow Tea Party leader Ted Cruz, he possesses a crossover appear to elements on the Left who are capable of accepting well-reasoned arguments.  All of this puts him in a place his father very recently occupied:  a potential contender for the US presidency.

not the best day for Rand

Rand Paul's chart with transits and progressions gives us a possible post-election-day scenario should he wind up on the presidential ballot.

Transiting Pluto conjunct Paul Sun:  Pluto hits the Sun on this chart all year, suggesting great upheaval and possibly power.  Certainly this slow-moving transit is consistent with a year in the spotlight in relation to political power.

Transiting Mars conjunct Paul South Node:  This fast-moving transit suggests some sharp bad news or loss on election day.

Transiting South Node and Neptune conjunct Paul Jupiter and progressed Sun:  More indicators of loss (South Node and Neptune), involving politics/publicity (Jupiter) and self-image (Sun).

Transiting Sun conjunct Paul Neptune:  Yet another indicator hinting at a loss.

Transiting Mercury square Paul Mars:  Inconvenient news.

Ron Paul ran for president three times, understanding full well that his chances of winning were slim.  He did so nevertheless in order to spread a message about freedom, peace, and prosperity which continues to inspire Americans to work to fight the corruption of their nation's current political system.  In this way, his losses were in fact victories.  Should the younger Rand Paul decide to run in 2016, he might do well to bear this attitude in mind...  because the astrology for him on election day that year is not promising.

Sadly, this does not bode well for re-election to the Senate, either.  Astrology suggests that Rand's career may echo his father's not only in general ideology but also in that Ron's congressional career also experienced an interruption.

Phil Robertson

"Duck Dynasty" reality superstar Phil Robertson has been the top news story in virtually all the mainstream media this week.  His comments in an interview expressing disapproval of homosexual behavior (while not overtly condemning those who engage in it) have stoked a firestorm resulting in a threatened suspension from his TV show's network, followed by a rapid reinstatement after popular backlash.

I watched a few episodes of the show on Netflix earlier this year and found it charming.  I could easily see why the show is such a hit, but wasn't moved to continue watching it myself.  I am no conservative:  I don't hold Robertson's position on homosexuality.  As long as he has not advocated force or violence against any parties, he has not violated the libertarian non-aggression axiom.  He is not, unlike stars of PBS programs, funded by taxpayer money.  As far as I'm concerned, whether his show continues is entirely a decision to be made by the market (the market has decided overwhelmingly in his favor and I have no problem with this).

Robertson's astrological chart (no birth time) is of some interest.

Pallas/Ethics:  Pallas is square Jupiter and more widely square Mercury.   Robertson doesn't seem particularly libertarian or authoritarian on this chart.

Venus/Second-House/Economics:  Venus in Taurus, with no connections to Neptune or the South Node.  That suggests (probably) conservative leanings in the economic department.  The North Node in the solar Second House reinforces this idea.  No surprise here, given Robertson's success in business through the creation of a tangible product (as opposed to Neptunian banking trickery) and his openly conservative leanings.

Moon/Culture:  Possibly no connections between the Moon and Neptune (unless he were born later in the day, giving us a quincunx).  Were he born in the morning, that would put the Moon trine the North Node and away from the Left-leaning influence of Neptune.  This would easily explain his strong cultural conservative stances.

The quindecile from the Sun to retrograde Jupiter in Libra perhaps represents how his "backward" social (Libra) ideology (Jupiter) might cause him some inconveniences (the quindecile to the Sun).  Transiting Jupiter in Cancer (public sentiment regarding family) is currently squaring Robertson's Jupiter (his personal ideology again) and Chiron (wounding, requiring adjustments), and conjoining his Saturn (a struggle, eventually resulting in this case in expanded authority).

No surprises here.  The beauty of the astro-political classification system I use here is that once you understand how it works (because of or despite my writing), it's not very hard to see how the socio-political/economic battles of humanity are simply people acting out their planets.  To see and understand that is to be more forgiving of the ways in which others differ from us, as long as they do not encroach upon our capacity to live our own lives as we choose.  This understanding and forgiveness make us, well, more libertarian.

Bloody Christmas

This morning's Drudge Report brings us some violent news from around the world.  37 have died in three separate bombings in the capital of Iraq.  A gunman opened fire outside a New Jersey strip club, hitting five and killing three.  The US embassy in Kabul found itself under fire this morning as well -- in this case no one was hurt.

Regular readers of this blog know that mass violence and the persons who commit it show up in astrology through the Bloodbath Formula.  This complicated combination of planetary influences has, in my experience, almost never failed to appear when massive carnage is involved.

This is a chart for the New Jersey shootings early this morning.  The time in the news report is approximate, reported as "shortly after midnight".  These are the factors that fulfill the Bloodbath Formula:

1.  Pallas trine Pluto and contraparallel Jupiter:  ethics compromised.

2.  Saturn, ruler of Venus, quindecile South Node and in aspect to two planets (Jupiter and Sun) which are in aspect to Neptune:  Venus (property rights including rights to one's own body) liquefied.

3.  Pluto conjunct Sun which is semisquare Saturn, ruler of Venus.  Pluto also rules the Second House in this chart.  Destruction (Pluto) of property including human bodies (Venus).

4.  Sun conjunct Pluto:  Death (Pluto) rules the day (Sun).

5.  (optional) Mercury at the IC

Bonus:  Mars (action/violence) opposite Uranus (unexpected events) over the ASC/Descendant axis.

We may get more violence in the next week or so as the Sun approaches Pluto, and Pallas remains within orb of Pluto and Jupiter.

May your holidays be peaceful.

Bitcoin and the Pluto-Uranus Square

This is a graph of the movements of Pluto and Uranus over the next two-and-a-half years, from the perspective of the Earth.  Pluto is is the brown wave, and Uranus is the blue one.  The horizontal dotted lines running across the graph are the 30-degree modulus positions of the Bitcoin Venus on the Bitcoin's first solar return, and the Bitcoin Sun.

I expect a high probability of significant Bitcoin news (good, bad, or both) and very pronounced price movement whenever any of the following conditions occurs:
  • The Pluto line crosses either of the dotted Sun or Venus lines
  • The Uranus line crosses either of the dotted Sun or Venus lines
  • The Pluto and Uranus lines cross each other on this graph
  • The Pluto line reaches the top or bottom of a curve, indicating a planetary station
To simplify, this means every time any two lines on the graph cross, or the brown line reaches the top/bottom of a curve.  Yes, almost every quarter of the next two years carries one or more of these events.  We are in for a very rocky ride.  Should Bitcoin survive through the end of 2015, we can probably consider it "here to stay".  If Bitcoin succeeds, the era of the central-banking/warfare complex may well be over, and  the Age of Pisces may be over as well.  Nerds may yet save humanity from itself.

NSA Court Ruling

This past Monday a federal judge, using scathing language but restrained authority, ruled against the NSA in a lawsuit regarding that agency's phone records collections.  Stating the obvious, he declared his belief that the NSA's behavior is "unconstitutional".  While the ruling was front-page news for virtually all media outlets, It is unclear what, if any, action will result.

I don't have a time for the actual ruling, but the astrology for the date is instructive.

Here is the USA Sibley chart with transits and progressions for Monday.

Transiting Pallas sextile USA Sun, semisquare USA Mercury, and square USA Ascendant/Descendant axis:  the nation gets a triple dose of the libertarian non-aggression principle as represented by Pallas.

Transiting Saturn, Jupiter, Mercury, and Moon all forming aspects to USA progressed Mars:  work (Saturn), publicity (Jupiter), dialogue (Mercury) and general attention (Moon) regarding the actions (Mars) of the state.

Transiting Chiron conjunct progressed USA Sun (ruling the Ninth):  Repair/adjustment (Chiron) of self/public-image (Sun) in the area of public service (the Ninth House, in Leo and therefore ruled by the Sun).

Transiting Mars at the USA MC, square Venus (ruling the Tenth) and Jupiter (ruling the Ascendant):  Battle (Mars) regarding authority/government (Tenth House) and its ability to act (Ascendant).

Here is the authorization chart for the creation of the NSA, with transits and progressions.

Transiting Pallas septile NSA Sun:  a small spotlight on ethics (Pallas)

Transiting Saturn, Jupiter, Mercury, and Moon all forming aspects to NSA Uranus, Saturn, Jupiter, Mercury, Ceres, and the Nodes:  work (Saturn), publicity (Jupiter), dialogue (Mercury) and general attention (Moon) triggering disruption (Uranus and probably Ceres) regarding publicity (Jupiter) and communication (Mercury), authority (Saturn) and possibly altering its destiny (the Nodes).

Transiting Sun trine NSA Pluto:  shining the light (Sun) on power (Pluto), so to speak.

Here is the chart which Matt Savinar insists is the only correct chart for the NSA, with transits and progressions.  Interestingly, it's much the same story as with the authorization chart.  A sextile between Pallas and the NSA Sun replaces the septile of the previous chart.  The Saturn-Jupiter-Mercury-Moon dog-pile on the chart hits many of the same points as on the authorization chart, minus Mercury and Saturn and weakening the Jupiter connection.

Both NSA charts work well for this event:  there's no "slam-dunk" like a transit to an angle to suggest a clear winner.  Either way, with the Nodal themes there's reason to believe that some changes may have to occur in the NSA's systematic violation of the privacy of all Americans.

Bitcoin: Ouch!

One annoying problem with Bitcoin is that if you take your eye off of it for a couple days (like I did), it can surprise you.  Today the price has dropped to a little under $600, about half of the recent peak from only two weeks ago.  In previous posts, we went over the Neptune factor:  transiting Neptune is currently conjunct the Bitcoin Venus.  This is not enough to kill the upward trajectory... unless a fast-moving transiting planet temporarily strengthens Neptune by any sort of significant aspect.  There are examples in previous posts.

Mars recently triggered Neptune in this way, explaining a small drop from a couple of days ago.  I believe today's painful drop is a repeat of previous action relating to Chiron, brought back to us through the magic of retrogradation and planetary stations.  The two factors I suspect are giving us the current malaise:

1.  Transiting Jupiter in the 12th quincunx Bitcoin Chiron.  Seen before, here
2.  Transiting Chiron quincunx Bitcoin South Node.  Seen before, here

Any astrologer who took into account the transits around previous price fluctuations, either by studying an ephemeris or simply by reading this blog carefully could have seen this coming.

Jupiter and Chiron are already leaving this configuration, though Jupiter will return.  Use your own judgement and act at your own risk, of course...  but I'm still bullish.

GOP Budget Capitulation

Earlier this week, the DC Republican lawmakers caved in, as usual, on federal budget negotiations.  This is no surprise:  it's the rare displays of defiance against hyper-spending and massive expansion of the national debt that are unusual for the GOP denizens of the Hill of Iniquity.  With their recent token protest against the evils of Obamacare, the rank-and-file Republicans now consider their good deed for the year to be done.  They now feel justified in returning to their usual pattern of giving the Leviathan State everything it wants.

time unknown; described as "night"

This is a chart for transits and progressions against the USA Sibley chart for the evening this week which spawned the deal.  Note that the Pallas-Pluto trine corresponding to other recent government expansions around the globe is very much in force.  While the trine is in effect, we will see the cancerous tentacles of the State expand their reach.

Other features of the chart stand out:

Transiting Jupiter square progressed USA Mars:  The power of the American State to act (Mars), greatly amplified (Jupiter), albeit perhaps awkwardly (the square).

Transiting Venus conjunct USA Pluto:  Money (Venus) for the "Plutocrats".  This one is quite literal.

Progressed Moon conjunct progressed Saturn:  On this chart, Saturn rules the Second House of finances and the Moon rules the Eighth House of debt.  This is another very literal configuration, representing the US financing its operations through debt (and taxes, arguably another Eighth House domain).

Business as usual, in other words.

Uranus and Conservatism

Yesterday, the Stars Over Washington blog posted about the astrology of political conservatism.  Being an ardent Left-winger (with an interesting dash of libertarian-conspiracy-theorist which I applaud), blogger Jude Cowell did not have nice things to say about the right wing of the Washingtonian bird of prey.  Nevertheless, she touched on a couple of interesting points which dovetail into my own astrological theory of political ideology.

The first point is the association of Uranus with right-wing movements, especially in America.  While I generally ignore Uranus in my own theory, there has long been evidence of such an correlation.  My friend the conservative blogger Promethean Antagonist has commented on the fact that many prominent conservative heroes such as Ayn Rand are Sun-sign Aquarians.  Far-Left astrologer and Chiron specialist Dale O'Brien associates Uranus with evil (including, for him, conservatism).  I believe he cites a study done decades ago of Sun signs of members of Congress:  Republicans came out disproportionately Aquarian and Democrats were disproportionately Arian and Piscean.

While one can accurately identify conservative tendencies in a chart without looking at Uranus, I believe the idea of a Uranian connection has merit... but not for reasons commonly cited.  I believe conservatives are often Uranian not because of a rebellious nature (if anything, conservatives are conformists though in a different way from the Left).  Conservatives are often Uranian because Uranus is detached, intellectual, and unemotional.  This flies in the face of the "don't think.. feel!" commandment of Left-wing culture, ruled by Neptune.  Conservatives, for all their faults, are more likely to look at the bottom line rather than follow some Neptunian rapture into oblivion.  Aries and Pisces, in contrast, are perhaps less logical and more likely to "follow their hearts" without engaging their brains.  Great for art.  Deadly for economic policy.

Jude's comment about the conservative worship of aspects of the feminine is more in line with my own thinking.  My own research consistently demonstrates that conservatism is astrologically driven by Venus and the Moon, and their associated houses and rulers.  If my work has any merit, the Left/Right divide may be entirely about the way we perceive our own inner traditionally-feminine archetypes.  And of course, Pallas, goddess of non-aggression and libertarianism, is also a feminine archetype.

I don't have birth data for Jude Cowell herself, but would guess at Neptune/South-Node involvement with the Moon (and/or rulers and/or Fourth House) and Venus (and/or rulers and/or Second House).  This, and a "mixed" Pallas signature (neither libertarian nor fully authoritarian) would account for the Leftist politics.  Probably also some Pluto involvement with Venus and/or the Moon or their rulers, for some feminist leanings.

Pluto, Pallas, and the Press

In the past few days, the governments of both Russia and Japan have made sudden moves to control the flow of information within their borders.  Astrology shows us this is no accident.

Other factors apply, of course, but I'd like to point out that Pallas (ethics, non-aggression) is currently trine Pluto (power, corruption) in the tropical sky.  Pallas sits at 10 degrees Virgo:  Pluto is at 10 degrees Capricorn.  Readers of this blog will know that when these two bodies form aspects, power often triumphs over reason.  In the American alternative press, stories about the "knockout game" and Barack Obama's expanding powers abound, accompanying the stories from Russia and Japan.

This current Pallas-Pluto trine hits Mercury (information, communication) on the national charts of both nations.  On Russia's Christmas 1991 chart, Mercury is at 11 Sagittarius.  On Japan's April 28 1952 chart, Mercury is at 12 degrees Aries.  Both these Mercury placements, representing the flow of information in their respective nations, are within the orb of effect of the Pallas-Pluto trine.

As always, when the peace and ethics of Pallas are compromised by Pluto, the South Node, and/or discordant aspects from Jupiter...  evil spreads unchecked.  We may explore the charts of Russia and Japan in future posts.

JRR Tolkien and his Elves

JRR Tolkien

John Ronald Reuel Tolkien, author of The Lord of the Rings, was a self-described "conservative anarchist".  Today such a description would match an influential faction of today's libertarian movement.  Tolkein's political ideology actually pervades and forms the basis for his epic Middle Earth tales.  Unlike Ayn Rand with Atlas Shrugged, however, Tolkien doesn't hit the reader over the head with his beliefs, rather choosing to let the story display them without fanfare.  His writing continues to infuriate academics and other state-apologists; the masses of the public who love it usually miss the libertarian subtext, at least consciously.

The novels are at heart an exploration of the problems of power, symbolized by The Ring.  Power and evil are inseparable.  Power attracts to itself not the innocent and the good, but the evil.  Power corrupts.  Fighting power with power only brings the corruption that comes with power and the pursuit of it.  What do good people do with the concentration of power?  They dispel it.

As usual, astrology gives us insight into Tolkien's political thinking.

The "conservative" in Tolkien's "conservative anarchist" is a little bit tricky.  The Moon is square the Nodes, highlighting cultural attitude in some way.  Neptune, co-ruler of the Moon, is conjunct the North Node but square the Moon herself.  We have a mix of culturally conservative and liberal elements.  One might argue that the Moon, being angular, wins over the elevated Neptune and that the Neptune/North-Node connection further strengthens the Moon against, oddly, Neptune himself.  It's not terribly clear.  Note that in Middle Earth, multiple races peacefully coexist albeit in mostly segregated communities; separate, as you might find some cultural conservatives calling for, but not particularly unequal.

The economics are mixed as well.  Venus, ruling the 2nd House, is trine Neptune:  leftward.  But the North Node is in Taurus:  rightward.  Mixed culture and economics together tend to push a chart by default to the Right in modern society.  The modern Left doesn't tolerate much compromise, and the modern Right is nothing if not thoroughly compromised.

The "anarchist" part is also complicated.  On the libertarian side, Mercury is semisquare Pallas and square her co-ruler Saturn.  Pallas is sesquiquadrate Saturn, which rules both Mercury and the Sun.  This is very strong on the libertarian side.  Mitigating this a little is Pluto widely trine Saturn (Pallas co-ruler, also quindecile Jupiter) and quincunx Uranus (Pallas co-ruler).  This is a bit of a planetary brawl.  I might have expected a libertarian-leaning paleo-conservative rather than a full-on anarchist, but frankly the complexity of the pattern raises some uncertainty as to interpretation.

Elves

Elves in Middle Earth are pointy-eared, highly civilized and logical, emotionally detached, peaceful and yet highly proficient in combat, a bit mystical, are associated with (magical) weapons, quietly work for the good of all races, and step out of the way when it suits the common good.  Sound familiar?

Tolkien's elves are an iteration of the Palladian archetype.  The world's literature and traditions has at least a few other high-profile examples of the archetype, hidden in plain sight and unrecognized for what they represent.

Bitcoin Double-Dip

The price of Bitcoin has dipped twice this week interrupting the recent upward surge (once a few days ago and once today).  Because my own holdings and cash flow are not large enough to merit doing the homework, I haven't taken the time to forecast these dips in advance.  They would have been easy to predict, however.

Neptune has been conjunct the Bitcoin Venus for a few months now, courtesy of a recent station.  The presence of Neptune alone is not enough to counteract the Pluto and North Node factors (described in previous posts) which correspond to this season's wild upward movement.  When a faster-moving planet, however, forms an aspect with Neptune...  Neptune is temporarily able to overcome the more powerful factors and make himself known against Venus.  When this happens, we see a dip in the price.

Transits for the first price dip this week:  note Mercury-Sun-Moon midpoint/conjunction picture, all square transiting Neptune.

Transits for today's dip:  Mercury square transiting Neptune.  This one has the possibility of lasting longer than the usual day or so, because of a factor not pictured here.  Transiting Saturn is squaring the Mars on the first solar return of the Bitcoin chart -- co-ruling the Second House on that chart.  The transit has not perfected yet, and will not do so for nearly a week.

This triggering of Neptune has occurred before in the past few months.  With Neptune slowly gaining distance from Bitcoin's Venus, this method of predicting short price drops will stop working quite so well until it fails altogether.  By then, Pluto will be in full force against Bitcoin's chart and I expect some truly extreme price movement.

Nelson Mandela

Neptune, astrological ruler of the political Left, is the consummate master of hiding his own history, even from his own faithful.  The fact that the word "Progressive" can be uttered in the same breath as "civil rights", that Franklin Delano Roosevelt can be credited with helping the Jews escape Nazi persecution (he denied them entry to the US), and that historically-clueless hipsters can wear Che Guevara T-shirts without being charged with hate crimes:  these all attest that when it comes to self-deception, the Left is unparalleled.  Indeed, the very existence of the Left as we know it today relies on the uniquely human ability to invent and believe in an alternate reality, completely divorced from fact.  (The Right has it coming, too... I'll pick on them if they ever come to power again).

It is this tendency towards deception, among others, which has made an astrological mapping of the ethical/political spectrum challenging.  Our mainstream political history hides the true nature of countless political movements and personalities.  An astrologer seeking to truly apprehend the way in which planetary movements correlate with human events must first uncover an accurate history.  This is much easier now in the advent of the internet than it was when academia, married to the reigning political power structure, was the sole source of historical information.  In the spirit of the quest for truth, no matter how unpleasant, we examine today's astrological chart.

If we believe the mainstream media, Nelson Mandela is a pure and great symbol of freedom, a man of great moral authority and ethical conviction who surrendered much in service of his fellow humankind.  A minute's research on the web, something few will take the time to do, shatters this flowery image entirely.  Mandela was not only a Communist but a leader of the African National Congress, a terrorist organization which has deliberately targeted civilians for killing.  This symbol of freedom actually stands for anything but.  Apartheid was a horror, but Mandela's ANC was even less humane than the regime it fought.

On the libertarian end, Pallas is trine the Sun on Mandela's chart.  So far, so good.  The "good", however, ends here.  For Pallas is parallel with the life-sucking South Node, and is ruled by Jupiter which is both parallel the South Node and conjunct murderous Pluto.  Extreme economic-Leftist psychology is very evident:  the South Node is conjunct Venus and Second House ruler Saturn is conjunct Neptune.  Putting him on the cultural Left and sealing our far-Left diagnosis is the Moon quincunx his very prominent South Node.  Adding injury and death to insult, Mandela also possesses features that not only put him in the Left-Authoritarian category, but complete the Bloodbath Formula and put him in the company of most serial killers:  Pluto is sesquiquadrate the Moon (ruler of the Sun) and indirectly conjunct Venus.

Doing our historical homework allows us to make sense of this chart, which matches the man and not the myth.  This is not the horoscope of someone who wants to liberate his fellow humans, but quite the opposite.  It is the chart of a murderer.

The Hunger Games / Suzanne Collins

It's not hard to see the two recent "Hunger Games" movies (starring the riveting and now extremely popular Jennifer Lawrence) as a dystopian sci-fi allegory for growing up in modern-day America.  The 12-plus-1 districts of the oligarchy of Panem might echo the 12-plus-1 grades of American compulsory education.  The crowded poverty of the districts and cruelty of the Games themselves might represent the experience of the American school-prisoner.  Lawrence's stunningly-portrayed heroine Katniss Everdeen must contend with much:  one absent parent, one useless parent, hostile authorities, rampant societal hypocrisy, economic uncertainty, a world of shifting alliances in which friends and foes are unclear, youthfully raging emotions, and the obligatory lessons of learning to relate to others.  In other words, the tale could easily be a more lethal version of the quintessential experience of growing up in modern America.

It is even easier (and more appropriate for this blog) to take "The Hunger Games" at face value and see it as the tale of a totalitarian State and its inevitable collapse.  From this view, we find the story much more sharply observed and true-to-life than the superficially-similar Marxist fantasy of Neill Blomkamp's Elysium.  Author Suzanne Collins' fictional nation of "Panem", unlike "Elysium", is more-or-less technically feasible and may well be based on real-life Communist societies.  Panem's system is one of total government control over the economy of the labor force, with the elite government class enjoying a wildly disproportionate share of the wealth that they alone have the power to distribute.  Central economic control is the linchpin of all Communist/Socialist systems (and partially of Fascist systems) and inevitably results in obscene wealth disparity generally absent in truly capitalist societies.  Where "Elysium" erroneously blames society's ills on "rich people", "The Hunger Games" places the source of society's malaise solely where it occurs in the real world:  with the guns of the State.

"The Hunger Games" also echoes other real-world phenomena where "Elysium" proves itself to be pure fantasy.  Panem's elite/government class exists in a state of severe moral/ethical decay (watching children kill each other for sport) evoking ancient Rome, modern America, or the inner circles of many a Communist ruling party; in "Elysium" we see none of the psychological roots of the divide and must simply accept that "rich" equals "bad".  Panem's totalitarian state brings about its own unraveling through its own obvious cruelty and corruption:  as in so many cases in real history, the people come to a boiling point and cannot help but rebel, assisted by conscientious insiders (Katniss is only an unwitting symbol of this rebellion).  In "Elysium", a Neptunian savior miraculously and single-handedly arises and dissolves the entire system in the space of an hour.

I can only find two relatively minor problems with "Hunger Games"'s depiction of tyranny.  One is that Donald Sutherland's evil "President Snow" is the sole arbiter of woe:  real tyrannies are generally based on consortia of power-hungry parties who unite against the populace but vie against each other for the helm.  The other is the age of the regime:  74-75 years.  True totalitarian regimes either loosen their grasp (China, to some degree) or fall to either economic forces (the Soviet Union) or popular revolt/movement (Somalia) within four decades (half of a Uranus cycle).

Based on "The Hunger Games", we know author Suzanne Collins is not only a skilled creator of fiction but also a person who can view political and social dynamics quite accurately.  In other words, we would expect a personality that astrology would show to be significantly libertarian (whether or not she consciously identifies as such).

This is not a "perfect" libertarian chart:  Pallas is somewhat widely square Jupiter, somewhat widely trine the South Node, and is ruled by Mercury which is widely conjunct Pluto and widely opposite Jupiter.  The tighter aspects answer our questions:  Pallas is sextile the Sun and quintile Mercury, and the North Node is conjunct the Sun for good measure.  Again, not perfect, but the chart gives us more "libertarian" than not, and explains Collins' accurate insights into politics.

Without a time of birth, we can't be sure, but aside from the libertarian/peacenik tendencies we might expect her to lean to the Left.  She has the South Node trine Venus (Leftward economics) and probably parallel the Moon (probably culturally liberal, even with the probable North Node trine). We will generally see Venus with the South Node and/or Neptune in the charts of creative artists (no surprise, which is why most of them lean to the Left).

Leo focus (Sun, Mercury, North Node): helps to explain Collins' livelihood as a creator of stories (Leo as self-expression) that speak to the experience of young people (Leo again).

Jupiter-Neptune-Pluto triangle:  capturing the public (Jupiter) imagination (Neptune) with stories (Neptune again) about power and oppression (Pluto).  That Chiron (wounding/healing) is conjunct Jupiter here reflects the fact that "The Hunger Games" does not give us easy answers to the problems it poses but portrays a believable process of Katniss' ongoing struggle to adjust and heal from her circumstances.

Mercury-Uranus-Pluto triple conjunction:  writing (Mercury) about political/popular (Uranus) upheaval (Pluto).

(Probable) Moon-Pluto-Chiron/Jupiter T-Square:  public media (Jupiter) exploring deep emotional issues (Moon) regarding death (Pluto) requiring healing (Chiron).  The Moon is also generally considered to be central to the charts of writers.

I, for one, will be awaiting the third and presumably final "Hunger Games" movie.  I might even read the books while I'm waiting.

P.S.:  Jennifer Lawrence was born under a Pallas-Venus conjunction, which she shares with fellow Hollywood hyper-beauties Natalie Portman, Lindsay Lohan, Anne Hathaway, Keira Knightley, Rebecca Romijn, Dakota Fanning, Barbara Stanwyck, Lauren Cohan, Brittany Murphy, and Miley Cyrus.  I do not consider this to be coincidence.  Lawrence also unsurprisingly shares a (Left)-libertarian chart pattern with "Hunger Games" writer Suzanne Collins.

Lee Harvey Oswald

The assassination of US President John Fitzgerald Kennedy a half-century ago remains a subject of endless debate and speculation to this day.  While there are still adherents to the "lone gunman" theory that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone, many polls of Americans show that most are skeptical of this theory and suspect elements within the US government.  The "official story" makes Oswald into a pathetic and mentally imbalanced Marxist who murdered JFK in a desperate bid for attention.  One popular and well-supported line of speculation posits, however, that Oswald was an ardent anti-Communist employed by government intelligence services to infiltrate Left-wing groups, later used as a "patsy" for a professional hit squad which actually carried out the JFK assassination.

Readers of this blog and its associated material know that astrology can be used, very accurately, to describe the likely political ideologies of politically active individuals.  By using astrology, we can gain insight into Oswald's personality and likely political beliefs, and thus determine with a high degree of confidence (assuming accurate birth data) if Oswald was a Left-wing malcontent or a anti-Leftist infiltrator.

This chart immediately suggests the possibility of a career military person, possibly a special-forces or "James Bond" type.  The Moon-Pallas parallel and opposition give us a fighter, and probably an effective one.  The Pluto-Pallas conjunction gives us two things:  a capacity to utilize Plutonian energies (death, sex, deep psychology, secrecy, power, etc.) and a willingness to use them even in violation of ethical laws.  Pallas square the Nodes perhaps takes some of the potentially destructive edge from Pluto-Pallas, but we are still looking at someone who may be an extremely capable soldier or covert operative.  Oswald's short career in the US Marines is well known, but the chart suggests a personality that may have elected to serve longer and in a more covert capacity than he is reported to have done.

Was Oswald honestly a Communist?  A slight tendency towards Left-wing economics might be seen in the weak novile between Venus and Neptune, and in the septile from Neptune to Pluto (co-ruler of Venus).  The indicators for capitalism, however, are quite strong:  Second House intercepted in Leo, which is ruled by the Sun which is conjunct the North Node.  This is already enough, but on top of that we have the North Node also conjunct Venus.  This is not merely the chart of a strongly capitalist personality but of someone who might potentially rival Ayn Rand in anti-Communist fervor.

The Oswald natal chart is not that of an ineffectual Communist misfit but of a Right-wing covert warrior.  His chart fits not the "official" narrative of the Kennedy assassination but the "conspiracy theories" that the Powers That Be continue to suppress.

The Tempest of 2014

I was planning to post about this topic closer to the end of the year, but (very Left-wing blog) Starlight News beat me to it.  Nancy also mentions a point or two I may have missed were I to write the article entirely myself.

In 2014, transiting Pluto will hang in the range between 11 and almost-14 degrees Capricorn.  Any person or entity with natal planets within those degrees in the signs of Aries, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Libra, or Capricorn (forming a 30-degree-multiple aspect not a trine, sextile, or semisextile) will undergo some significant events. The Starlight blog post mentions the US chart and Barack Obama's chart, which I would have mentioned, as well as the US Congress chart which I probably would have overlooked.  It omits two affected charts of interest to libertarians and those interested in monetary policy:  the Federal Reserve and Bitcoin

We've suggested numerous times that Pluto conjoining the Bitcoin Sun (and first solar return Venus) will probably have a very noticeable effect on the BTC price.  Possibly related is that the configuration we're discussing has Uranus in a quincunx with the Federal Reserve Moon and Pluto quincunx the Fed's Saturn.  The Moon on that chart rules the Ascendant as well as Mars and Neptune; Saturn rules the Sun.  A possible and actually quite likely scenario is that the Fed makes moves toward massively expanded money-printing... in anticipation of which Bitcoin prices (yet again) raise the roof.  While all sorts of things might happen under next spring's configuration, a monetary crisis in the US would account for all the charts involved in one fell swoop.

Libertarians generally consider such a crisis inevitable, albeit nearly impossible to predict the timing of.  The US dollar is controlled by highly secretive private interests (the Fed is, after all, a privately-owned corporation to which the US has illegally granted a monopoly on currency-creation).  This puts those secretive private interests entirely in the driver's seat.  If and when the crisis does occur, libertarians and many conservatives who have prepared for it will find themselves in far better position than those who have placed their faith in the false God that is the State

With regard to Bitcoin, I think the vicinity of January 11 2014 will bring dramatic events.

Iran Nuclear Deal

This is a chart for the nuclear deal just signed with Iran and six other nations this morning in Geneva.  It freezes parts of Iran's nuclear program in exchange for a partial lifting of sanctions.  It has Israel and the neoconservatives furious, because it moves the region away from the possibility of open warfare toward peace.  Iran, for all its numerous faults, is a fundamentally non-aggressive nation.  Libertarians and peaceniks who are paying attention know that the brouhaha over Iran as a "threat" is an Israeli/neoconservative tactic to pressure America into another quagmire of war.

The chart is complex and somewhat conflicted.  It has a full trifecta of authoritarian/pro-war factors:  Pallas square Pluto, semisquare Jupiter, and trine the South Node.  However, the Sun is moving into a square with Pallas, and Mercury which rules Pallas is both conjunct and very tightly parallel with the North Node.  The peacenik/libertarian factor wins, but the victory is uneasy.  The fact that the governments of the world have not made major authoritarian moves lately also reflects this pattern.

The North Node is dead-on the Second House cusp, which probably nullifies the tentative Bloodbath Formula that otherwise exists on the chart (Pallas with compromising aspects, Pluto connections to Sun and Venus, and Neptune semisquare Venus).  This bodes well in that it joins with the Pallas/Mercury/North-Node pattern to suggest that the deal will not somehow turn into another twisted justification for a new war.

Jupiter in Cancer (perhaps reflecting public sentiment as well as the "benevolent" side of authority?) is prominent in the Tenth House of governmental authority, and is the focus of a weak sesquiquadrate-yod (or "Thor's Hammer") between the Sun and Neptune.  This is perhaps a hopeful configuration suggesting a manifestation of humanity's desire for peace -- but Neptune suggests not only hopes and dreams but unseen dealings and deception.

Themes of communication are also prominent.  The elevated Jupiter rules the Third House of communication.  The North-Node/Mercury/Saturn triple-parallel-conjunction in the Second House suggests a hopeful (North Node) dialogue (Mercury) between authorities (Saturn) regarding tangible assets (the Second House).

Jupiter also forms an opposition with Pluto and Venus which sit at the IC.  This is fairly literal:  Jupiter (the "royalty", as it were) in negotiation with opposing parties (the Fourth House) regarding nuclear power (Pluto) and economics (Venus).

Uranus on the Descendant trine the Moon in the Eleventh House gives us a picture of an unexpected shift in relations (Uranus on the Descendant) which is of benefit to the public (the Moon in the Eleventh).

Chiron on the Sixth House cusp (trine the Sun) suggests repair or healing (Chiron) of processes and working structures (the Sixth House).

This deal is uncharacteristic of the current administration, which until recently has chosen war and tyranny at every opportunity.  Perhaps it is a symptom of a need to placate the faction of its Left-liberal support base that actually desires peace, or a "bone" thrown to the public in the face of the spectacularly epic failure of Obamacare.  More such moves by this otherwise nasty administration are naturally welcomed, albeit suspiciously.

Nicolas Maduro

Current Venezuelan Communist leader Nicolas Maduro has recently been hell-bent on killing any and all consensus-based economic activity in his nation. This will do what such action always does:  destroy the productive economy (or what remains of it) or drive it underground (a la Cuba). To those with any understanding of real-world economics, it is a mystery why anti-free-market ideologies continue to plague humanity.  Astrology can help up see the psychological dynamics behind the malaise.  It is particularly obvious in the case of Maduro.

Pallas/Ethics:  believe it or not, Venezuela could have it worse -- Maduro's chart is not completely authoritarian.  It has Pallas widely conjunct the North Node, which suggests some potential for being able to choose communication, logic, and cooperation over force, domination, and violence.  But as we would expect in the chart of a Communist dictator, this factor is strongly overruled.  Pluto is septile Pallas and novile her ruler the Moon.  Power blinds him against reason.

Venus/Second-House/Economics:  we might be lulled into suspecting free-market leanings if we first looked at Mercury, ruling the Second House, trine the North Node.  A quick look at declination shows that the South Node parallel with Mercury obliterates any possibility of such leanings.  Then, of course, there is the coup de grace:  Neptune tightly conjunct Venus (goddess of value).  Like most of his fellow economic Leftists, Maduro has a Neptunian (that is to say, completely ungrounded) perception of wealth.

Moon/Culture:  An economic Leftist can still end up on the Right (as a Fascist or early Progressive) if the Moon and/or the Fourth House are configured with the North Node.  Maduro has the opposite here:  the Moon is ruled by Venus, liquefied by the Neptune conjunction.

A solid authoritarian Pallas placement, plus economic and cultural Leftist configurations gives us a strong Left-wing authoritarian.  The very strong Pluto (parallel with the North Node) hints at Communism, as does the weak Bloodbath Formula (completed by Pluto widely square the Sun, novile Moon, and sextile Venus in combination with the above factors).

It is in defiance of economic tyranny that the youthful technologists of today have created new methods of resistance such as Bitcoin.  If these upstarts succeed, the days of Maduro and Communism may soon be truly over.

Bitcoin Spikes Again

I use BitcoinAverage excluding MtGox to determine the US dollar price of Bitcoin.  By this measurement, the Bitcoin price suddenly rocketed over a few days from the low 400's of last week to nearly double yesterday, before settling just shy of 600.  In terms of non-astrological news, this corresponds with yesterday's US Senate hearing on Bitcoin.

Astrologically, we're looking at a fast-moving object for the trigger of this activity.  Venus is the obvious one, as she approaches a conjunction within the next 48 hours to the Bitcoin Sun.  But as the Venus-Sun transit hasn't quite peaked yet, we're at a loss using normal methods to explain why the peak was apparently yesterday.  Enter the first solar return chart against the transiting positions for yesterday.

Astrologer Dietrech Pessin uses the first solar return as an alternative natal chart against which transits, progressions, and solar arcs can apply.  Running the usual techniques against the first solar return chart often describes significant events that will not appear against the natal chart.  This is a chart for the latest Venus return against the first solar return -- note that it's for yesterday.  Using this technique, a fast-moving spike in value makes sense.  (Venus equals money/value, and the return suggests that this energy temporarily takes the spotlight)

Venus is still heading for the Bitcoin Sun.  another spike (maybe smaller?) may occur in the next 48 hours.  In any event, due to the Pluto and North-Node-declination factors described in previous posts I still expect a strong upward trend until these factors peak in January.

Keep Your Health Plan... for a Year

President Barack Obama has broken hundreds of promises during his reign, but none have hit the American people quite as hard as the promise that "if you like your health plan you can keep it" under the health care law that unofficially bears his name.  The resulting furor has forced his hand, and he has unilaterally decreed a change to the law which will "un-break" this particular promise -- until 2015.

This is, to a limited degree, an increase in freedom and a rollback of the heavy hand of the State.  When peace and freedom break out in any form, the astrological Pallas is involved.  This case is not an exception.

This is a chart for noon last Thursday, the day that Obama announced his changes to the health care law.  I don't have a time for the announcement, but the date alone gives us a wealth of descriptive data points:

Transiting Sun conjunct Obamacare Pallas and Transiting Pallas quincunx Obamacare Sun:  The Sun is (along with Mercury and the North Node) a primary activator for Pallas.  These aspects bring peace (we recently explored this in the Syria war crisis) and freedom in the realm of political astrology.

Transiting Mars semisquare Obamacare Mars:  Mars on the Obamacare chart rules both the Sixth House (health, and the general citizenry) and the Eleventh (society and the public).  The transiting Mars semisquare suggests an attack on the way Obamacare relates to both areas.

Transiting Mars trine Obamacare North Node:   This is ambiguous and intriguing, suggesting that the current change is somehow in line with the law's long-term destiny.  Is this a hint at repeal?

Transiting retrograde Jupiter square Obamacare Venus:  Retrograde Jupiter in Cancer perhaps represents public sentiment against "forward" movement ("forward" does not always mean "good").  The square here against the Obamacare Venus suggests perhaps a temporary financial setback to the insurance companies that wrote the law in the first place.

Transiting Mercury quincunx Obamacare Sun:  News/communication (Mercury) that involves an uneasy adjustment (the quincunx) to the core of Obamacare (the Sun).

Progressed Moon opposite Obamacare Neptune:  The Moon in the Obamacare chart rules the First House (essential being and action) and the Second House (resources/money) of the chart.  This progression represents an aspect of the "falling apart" or "dissolving" of Obamacare since its official launch in recent weeks.

This is good news... for the time being.  Misguided economic policy is as deadly, or more so, than guns and bombs.  For example:  while the death toll from US-initiated wars in the past decade (probably in the low millions) is horrifying, the death toll from high grain prices due to ethanol subsidies was orders of magnitude higher.  Obamacare remains a threat which will result in the loss of medical care, severe financial hardship, and/or death for large numbers of Americans if it is not repealed.  Time will tell if the American people are smart enough to save themselves from this threat.

Chris Christie 2016?

I find Chris Christie to be a formidable and entertaining individual -- I think he'd make a great anti-hero for a "House of Cards"-type television series.  He's charismatic, quick-witted, highly capable... and basically without an ethical compass.  This means, in today's climate in which the worst rise to the top, he is a very serious contender for the American throne.  So, as part of a series in which we examine various presidential contenders, we'll be looking at Christie's astrological weather for election day 2016.

This is Christie's chart (no birth time available as yet) with transits for immediately after what I assume will be election day (Nov 8 2016).  It generally bodes well for him.

Transiting North Node conjunct Christie Sun and Pluto:  expansion and/or aggrandizement (North Node) of self (Sun) and personal power (Pluto).

Transiting Pluto trine Christie Sun:  Power is most certainly on his side this year.  Not pictured:  his first solar return (a la Dietrech Pessin) has a progressed Pluto tightly conjunct Christie's Sun.  Again, an indicator of power and personal upheaval and possibly a great deal of it.

Transiting Saturn square Christie Sun:  squares from Saturn are generally challenging, but this could also mean the assumption of new authority for Christie.

Transiting Jupiter conjunct Christie Mercury:  Good (Jupiter) news (Mercury) around this time.  Because Mercury rules Christie's Sun, he's in a (metaphorical) period of expansion.  This bodes very well for him, but maybe not for his already gargantuan waistline.

There are some other conjunctions happening here which may or may not temper the very strong positive transits he has going here:  the transiting South Node and Neptune over his Jupiter may mute some of the energy here.  Overall, however, the picture for him on election day is decent.

Conclusion:  if Christie gets on the Republican presidential ticket for 2016, his chances of winning the general election are not bad at all.

Matt Drudge

Matt Drudge, without being a politician, is probably one of the most powerful political forces in America.  His Drudge Report has been a cornerstone of independent news media for over a decade.  It continues to grow in audience and influence at the expense of the government-lapdog "mainstream" media and is at least partly responsible for today's libertarian and paleo-conservative resurgence.  Astrology gives us some insight into the conservative media king.

Pallas/Ethics:  There are hints at openness to authoritarianism:  Pallas is quindecile Pluto and ruled by Mars which is widely conjunct Pluto.  These tendencies are most likely overridden by Pallas quincunx the Sun and novile to the North Node, which is also widely trine Pallas' ruler Mars.  This configuration explains his migration from a more-or-less mainstream conservative to more-or-less libertarian

Venus/Economics:  Venus is quindecile the North Node, which is trine both of Venus' rulers Mars and Pluto.  That Venus is also conjunct the Sun probably amplifies this factor.  Drudge is something of an anomaly in modern American political life:  a true fiscal conservative.

Moon/Culture:  Without a time of birth, we can't be completely certain which way the chart swings.  The Moon is possibly quincunx either Neptune or the South Node, for a possible culturally liberal vector.  In any case the Moon is (almost) definitely in Aries, ruled by Mars which is widely trine the North Node, providing a culturally conservative vector.  This may account for anti-abortion views.

The overall picture from these three factors suggests a dedicated fiscal (and probably cultural) conservative who becomes more libertarian over time.  The extremely Leftward-biased mainstream-media coverage of this season's "government shutdown" is a timely reminder of why Drudge remains relevant, crucial, and growing more so.

Some other points:

Neptune conjunct South Node and trine Saturn:  As Neptune is a primary indicator for Leftist leanings, it is appropriate that Neptune is restricted and weakened by these aspects.  The combination of these three factors often appears in the charts of outspoken atheists.

Saturn opposite Pluto:   An aspect that Richard Tarnas associates with rises in conservatism.

Sun/Jupiter/Pallas triangle:  Pallas/Jupiter aspects often appear in the charts of skillful publicists and teachers.  That these two bodies are in close aspect to the Sun suggests that the related skills are part of Drudge's reason for being.

Mercury/Jupiter/Saturn grand trine (wide):  Communication (Mercury) regarding public life (Jupiter) and authority (Saturn).

French Tax Revolts

We in the United States have every right to complain about taxes (also known as "theft").  But the French have it worse.  So much so that the anti-tax protests in recent weeks have turned violent, and Socialist French President Francois Hollande may well be more hated in his land than Barack Obama is in ours.  I personally visited Paris twice last year:  once before and once after Hollande took power.  I saw more homeless Parisians and street-hustlers, and a meaner spirit to the city on the second trip.  This is anecdotal and not a scientific measurement of the effect of a Socialist regime, but it seems to match the news coming from France.

For background, a few relevant points about Liz Greene's chart for the Fifth Republic, considered to be the current "chart of France".  We might go into some other aspects of this chart in the future.

Pallas/Ethics:  On the authoritarian side, Pluto is widely conjunct Pallas and novile her ruler Mercury.  On the libertarian side, Pallas is parallel her ruler Mercury, which in turn is conjunct both the North Node and the Sun.  So while there is an astrological impetus towards a strong central government, the country also has a significant and probably growing libertarian streak.

Venus/Second-House/Economics:  Venus happens to rule the Second House in this chart, so she is doubly strong as an indicator of economic leanings.  She is, within mere minutes of arc, in a semi-sextile with Neptune.  On the other side, she is semi-sextile Pluto, forming a strong midpoint picture.  Wealth, as represented by Venus, is colored by dissolution (Neptune) on one side and destruction (Pluto) on the other.  In addition, Neptune is conjunct the North Node.  Combined with a not entirely libertarian Pallas placement, this explains the nation's strong and increasing Socialist tendencies.

These configurations reflect France's Socialist bent, and also some of the internal opposition to it.

The same chart, with current transits and progressions, describes the tax revolt situation.

Transiting Pluto conjunct France Midheaven:  revolutionary pressure to change or topple the regime.  This is just the beginning of interesting times for the government.

Transiting Neptune opposite France Pluto:  dissolution and/or general disillusionment regarding the political/monetary power.

Transiting Saturn entering France Eighth House:  years of struggle regarding the tax system lie ahead.

Transiting Stationing Jupiter conjunct France Moon in the Fourth House:  a popular (Moon) movement (Jupiter) against (Fourth House, representing the opposition to the ruling party).  Jupiter is retrograde now but will be coming back for another run.

Progressed Mercury Station conjunct Progressed Saturn:  Mercury, ruling the Sixth House of the workforce and general populace, stationed retrograde earlier this year.  It is now moving away from progressed Saturn (traditionally ruling authority).

France has historically been an inspiration to America and her political movements.  We might do well to keep an eye on our long-time European partner, to see what awaits us here.

Redefining Good and Evil

"Good" people, as we define them, vote for hard-authoritarians like Bush, Obama, and Hitler and support them even when they almost inevitably begin killing innocents in the millions.  "Good" people support government programs proven time and time again to cause harm, usually to those they intend to help.  They sign up for military service and obey orders to raze villages and bomb children into bloody ash.  They demonize others that publicly question the "goodness" of the things that "good" people do.

Leftist revolutionaries will turn their lands into slaughterhouses in the name of doing "good".  In the name of doing "good", liberals will engender the entitlement mentality in the groups they intend to uplift, this cementing their alienation from the majority who work for what they want.  Conservatives will wave their flags and cheer the bombing of alien cultures.  Environmentalists will support government agencies that turn around and rent the lands they claim to protect, for clear-cutting by corporations at a pittance.  Jihadists and crusaders massacre communities of competing religions, believing they are doing "good".  The eugenecists of the 20th century wiped out millions of members of minority groups in the name of the "good" of humanity.

Contrast this to the advancements in humanity, mostly technological, which allow humankind to flourish rather than struggle to survive.  From the cotton gin to the automobile to the microprocessor: innovations which have allowed our species to rise from the dirt to ascend to the sky...  generally come from intelligent self-interest.  "Capitalist greed" is responsible for creating the system in which the greatest health problem for the poor in the developed world... is obesity.  As for the undeveloped world, it's those doing "good" -- the anti-sweatshop crusaders and the environmental holier-than-thous -- who are preventing development.  "Greed" is not only good for humans, but for nature:  Zimbabwe saved their elephants not through the standard governmental controls that "good" people support (which usually fail through government corruption), but through privatization.

"Good and evil" as we know them today are largely Neptunian concepts, based on ideals that do not reflect reality.  Today we largely use these concepts to justify doing what we want to do without having to think for ourselves.  "Good" is a word that very often means the opposite of what it is supposed to intend.  "Evil" is a word we slap onto those who get in our way.

On the flip side, cooperation, consensual organization, and non-aggression are purely and heartlessly logical.  Civility is utterly rational.  Helping another who would be truly grateful is an intelligent investment in a potential future resource -- no gushy and self-congratulatory "compassion" need be involved.

"Smart and stupid", as represented by Pallas, goddess of logic and peace, seem to reflect the real working of human society much better than do "good and evil".  If we judge a virtue by its effects, then intelligence that can override emotion may well be the highest virtue.  We might paradoxically do ourselves and the world a lot of good by rejecting "good" altogether in favor of cold and thorough rationality.

Pope Francis

Left-Liberal types and even some libertarians have been celebrating newly-elected Pope Francis, who has been proving himself to be highly "progressive" in the modern view.  He has suggested that non-Christians may not be eternally damned (this hints at libertarianism, being a surrender of the authority of the church), espoused strong Left-wing economic beliefs, and even shown tolerance of homosexuality.  His near-perfect Left-Libertarian astrological chart reflects his attitudes:

Pallas/Ethics:  There is a wide quincunx between Pallas and Pluto -- an authoritarian factor but quite weak.  This is overwhelmed by the libertarian factors.  Pallas is conjunct the North Node and the Sun, and ruled by Jupiter which is conjunct the North Node, the Sun, and Mercury (all three Pallas-positive factors are present).

Venus/Economics:  Venus is in Aquarius, ruled by Saturn (which is opposite Neptune) and Uranus (which is sesquiquadrate Neptune).  Neptune alters both Venus' rulers and no capitalist factors are present, making for a clear economically Leftist chart. While Left-wing economics are lethal in the charts of politicians (who enact policies that quite literally kill people by wrecking their economies), they are absolutely appropriate in the charts of spiritual leaders.

Moon/Fourth-House/Culture:  The Moon here is affected by the exact same Neptune factors as is Venus.  In addition, the South Node is in the Fourth House:  Francis is the opposite of a cultural conservative.  This is a fascinating shift for an institution known for adhering to arguably outdated dogma.

The Vatican's College of Cardinals probably couldn't have a elected a more appropriate figurehead for today's times.  Pope Francis may help the Church to remain relevant in an age of State-worship, and remind us all that right and wrong do not come from the barrel of the government guns, but from a higher authority.

Bitcoin Price Spike

The price of Bitcoin has jumped to a new all-time high this week, beating the then-ludicrous peak of April this year.  I can find no commonly-used astrological transit or progression to account for it.  As discussed in previous posts, the approach of Pluto to the Bitcoin Sun (and first solar return Venus), echoing this spring, appears to be a driver of price growth for the next few months and perhaps beyond.  My suspicion is that today's Jupiter retrograde station is not the trigger, but we'll probably know for certain by the end of the week.  There is a non-obvious transit that I think gives us the answer to the price leap.

transiting declination graph

The Saturn - North Node conjunction of this season peaked a while ago...  in longitude, the dimension all astrologers look at.  In oft-ignored declination, however, the peak of the conjunction was this week.  This transiting parallel happens to be parallel with the Bitcoin Venus.  The North Node with Saturn suggests growth of the type that isn't easily undone, and Venus of course is value.  What's more, the North Node parallel to Venus is still growing in strength from now through most of January.

So unless my guess is wrong and Jupiter is actually the trigger, we'll probably continue to see a climb through the January peak.  Around the peak, I'm guessing at vertical price movement:  probably up, but because Pluto is one of the drivers here I'm not betting the farm.  Maybe half the farm, though...

Rand Paul Plagiarism Allegations

Politicians who go along with increasing the predatory activities of the State Leviathan can get away with murder.  They can use the State to enrich themselves despite blatant conflict of interest, tell hundreds of lies to the public, and engage in other crimes that would result in imprisonment if committed by mere mortals.  The corporate press and (of course) the State turn a blind eye to the minions of the monster.  On the other hand, politicians who seek to make the State less lethal find themselves subject to attack at every turn.

This is the predicament of freshman senator Rand Paul, who has much more often than not tried to do the right thing and pry the claws of the State off the throat of the American public.  Establishment Republicans spurn him and the press attacks him at every turn.  The latest attack, which has actually forced Paul to take significant defensive measures, involves allegations of plagiarism.

This is a chart for noon yesterday.  Note that unlike recent transits for Obamacare and the NSA under which unpleasant and inconvenient truths came to light, there are no transiting connections between Jupiter (publicity) and the South Node (hidden history).  Here is what we do have:

Transiting Chiron conjunct natal Jupiter:  wounding which requires healing and adjustment (Chiron), applied in the areas of publishing and public relations (Jupiter).

Transiting Saturn conjunct natal Neptune:  challenges and difficulties (Saturn) with image (Neptune).

Transiting Mars conjunct natal Pluto:  external attack (Mars) upon one's power (Pluto).

Libertarians who are paying attention know this event to be an attack by the powers that be and not a career-killing revelation of wrongdoing.  Astrology reinforces this view.

The "big one" for Rand Paul is probably in 2016 when transiting Pluto conjoins his natal Sun.  This has implications for a presidential run, which we may discuss in a future post.

More Feminist Charts

This is a selection of charts of women who are (arguably) feminist but not (openly) Communist as per a previous post.  Unlike my collection of political charts, it is nowhere near large enough to confidently draw conclusions from.  This post is also somewhat tangential to the "libertarian" mission of the blog, but nevertheless strongly hints at patterns of sociopolitical interest that are worthy of further research.  Pallas in the chart may have nothing to do with feminism, but I have yet to locate a "fully libertarian" Pallas configuration in a feminist's chart.  With the exception of Gloria Steinem, these charts generally have the standard "left-wing" chart configurations involving Neptune and/or the South Node detailed elsewhere.  The factors highlighted here (Pluto configured with both the Moon and Venus) appear to be the most obvious factor that separate the charts of feminists from others.

Gloria Steinem.  Feminist leader and CIA operative.  Elevated Pluto in Cancer (very) widely conjunct Moon and quincunx Venus.

Helen Gurley Brown.  The "fun, fearless, female" herself.  Pluto in Cancer sesquiquadrate Moon in Scorpio (mutual reception) and trine Venus.

Madonna.  Ageless pop goddess.  Pluto conjunct Mercury (ruler of Moon) and Sun (ruler of Venus).

Naomi Wolf.  "Third Wave" feminist author of "The Beauty Myth".  Pluto sextile Mercury (ruler of Moon) and ruler of Venus in Scorpio.

Mary Wollstonecraft.  Mother to feminism and Frankenstein. Pluto sextile Moon and quincunx Venus.

We can probably interpret the Pluto-with-Moon-and-Venus configurations that seem so common in the charts of feminists in different ways.  One one hand, there is an obvious connection between Pluto and death:  these configurations may represent in some way the killing (and reinventing) of feminine energies.  One could also interpret these patterns as the infusion of feminine energies with revolutionary and/or destructive power.  Both interpretations (and others) are likely valid.
