Elliot Rodger / Isla Vista Killings

Capping an already bad week of murder and mayhem, a sex-starved brat kills his roommates and then goes on a shooting rampage directed against the female gender.  At least two other astro-bloggers have already weighed in on the relevant charts.  Readers of this blog will find this entry consistent with the others I've written on this topic:  we are looking for conscientious Pallas to be astrologically compromised and the Bloodbath Formula in effect on both homicidal twerp Elliot Rodger's chart and on the chart for the killing spree itself (very similar to the configuration in the last post).  We are also looking for transiting Pluto against Rodger's natal Pallas as a trigger for his behavior.

The Bloodbath Formula on Elliot Rodger's chart:
1.  Pallas novile Pluto and ruled by Mercury which is mundane-square Pluto.
2.  Neptune sesquiquadrate Mercury which rules both Venus and the Second House
3.  Venus septile Pluto and ruled by Mercury which is mundane-square Pluto.
4.  Pluto at the IC.
5.  Pluto square Jupiter, ruler of the Fifth House.
6.  (optional) angular Mercury on Ascendant.

The Bloodbath Formula on the chart for the start of the killings:
1.  Pluto sesquiqudrate Pallas and approaching quindecile with Mercury, ruler of Pallas.
2.  Venus conjunct South Node and ruled by Mars which is quincunx Neptune.
3.  Pluto square Mars, ruler of Venus
4.  Moon square Pluto.
5.  Sun contraparallel Pluto.
6.  (optional) angular Mercury on Descendant

Elliot Rodger's chart with the event chart superimposed.  Pluto is very tightly "squine" or 105 degrees Rodger's Pallas, and sesquiquadrate Mercury, ruler of Rodger's Pallas.  I almost never have to resort to the "squine" (halfway between a square and a trine) aspect in interpretation, but over hundreds of charts I've noticed it does have some effect, usually small.  Transiting Pluto in aspect to the sign ruler of Pallas also tends to have a small effect.  With two such small effects together, however, we tend to see the same potency as a single major aspect such as a trine or square.

This event isn't quite as obvious an example of these techniques as some earlier ones, but it supports the unbroken record of said techniques thus far in my research.  Here's hoping for fewer future examples to support my hypotheses, and more of what the astrological Pallas represents:  reason and self-control over senseless action and violence.  Society can mitigate future massacres by promoting a "gun culture" in which ordinary people carry weapons:  criminals will always have guns, and police will always be a few minutes too slow to stop them.  For every time a gun assists in the commission of crime, there are five times as many reports of incidents in which a gun-wielding citizen stopped a crime.

Taipei Stabbings / Chicago Shootings

A stabbing spree in Taipei.  A rash of shootings in gun-controlled Chicago.  When we see mass violence in the news, we can be fairly certain that peace-loving Pallas is astrologically compromised and that the Bloodbath Formula is in effect.

Here's a chart and formula for the Taipei incident, which applies also to the malaise in Chicago.

1.  Pallas sesquiquadrate PlutoWeak, hence the relatively minor events
2.  Mars, ruler of Venus, quincunx Neptune
3.  Venus square Pluto.
4.  Pluto semisextile Moon and square her ruler Uranus.
5.  Sun parallel/sesquiquadrate Pluto. Fastest-moving and probably the "trigger"

Pallas rules libertarianism and non-aggression in astrology.  The two terms are synonymous both in astrology and in life:  it is impossible to have one without the other.  The wise seek both.

Bitcoin: Today's Spike

After weeks of maddening price stability, the price of Bitcoin has jumped nearly ten percent today.

The astrology shows transiting Venus conjunct the MC for Bitcoin's genesis block chart, and transiting Jupiter square the same point.  This suggests that today's peak may be relatively temporary (Venus moves fast) but perhaps some gain may remain after Venus is done, from Jupiter's movement.

This also tells us that London (which we've been using) is a more likely location for the chart than the proposed alternative of Dublin, Ireland.  The Dublin chart puts the MC a full six degrees earlier; this chart would not explain today's rise.

Harvey Milk

Harvey Milk was a gay-rights activist in the days before it was before it was fashionable or safe to be one.  This makes him a very different animal from the modern PC-policing, cultural-Marxist variety.  Today's gay-rights activist cries oppression at every hint of personal bias against non-hetero/cisgender sexuality and seems to be as much bully as victim.

Milk's modern-day counterparts rightfully hold him up as a true civil-rights hero.  Like all Marxists, however, they ignore those facets of history which inconveniently contradict their ideology.  For the heroic Harvey Milk was not one of them.  Little is written of Milk's days before his rise to prominence in San Francisco politics, in part because he worked in support of Barry Goldwater.  That's not a misprint.  The "L-word" that we could apply to Milk based on his public history is "Libertarian".

Yes, Libertarian:  Milk's chart has the Sun conjunct Pallas (as per Ron Paul, Lew Rockwell, and G Edward Griffin) and Mercury conjunct Pallas (as per Lysander Spooner, Tom Woods, and MLK).  These are the two single most powerful libertarian aspects you can have on a chart, and we have them here on the same chart.  There are mitigating factors (a quincunx from the South Node and a semisquare from Pluto) but these are no match for the two Pallas conjunctions.  It's not even close.

No doubt other astrologers have already pointed out the Mars-Uranus conjunction (unconventional sexuality, for his era) and Venus-Jupiter conjunction (numerous and/or public love affairs).  Pallas, however, is what defined his life and his struggle for human freedom regardless of sexual proclivities.

A Quick Note on the Neptune Station

Neptune will be making a retrograde station around June 9 next month.  The watery planet's apparent "forward" motion along the ecliptic will pause and then reverse direction, triggering on Earth its astrological energies of illusion, disillusion, dissolution, creativity, and the hope for transcendence.  Around the corresponding Neptune station from last summer, Edward Snowden and company revealed to the world the NSA's massive spying program against America's own citizens.

This next occurrence is between seven and eight degrees Pisces (tropical).  It will affect a number of charts of interest.  The station is:

square USA Uranus on Descendant, which rules Third House:  a foreign policy scandal?

conjunct Barack Obama Chiron and trine his Neptune: public image repair?

conjunct Federal Reserve Chiron:  cracks in the central bank's facade?

conjunct Ukraine (1991) Second House cusp:  financial troubles in Kiev?

conjunct progressed Bitcoin Venus:  price movement, probably down?

The effects of the station are likely to be "give or take a few days".  This jibes somewhat with a recent prediction by Clif at that the second week of June brings some political/economic upheaval.  I've never spoken with Clif, but he's linked to this blog in the past.

Thomas Piketty

Far-left-wing French economist Thomas Piketty's book Capital in the Twenty-First Century has been making a splash in pundit-land.  Establishment Leftists are holding the book aloft as vindication of their ideas; free-market libertarians are doing the facepalm.  The book, of course, purports a rational case for massive forced wealth redistribution by the State as a solution to the ills of humanity.  The results of such policies in Piketty's native France of late seem to have escaped his attention.

Strong proponents of forced wealth redistribution generally possess two astrological markers on their charts.  The first is a debilitated or compromised Pallas, suggesting openness to using force to impose one's will upon others.  The second is the Venus-Neptune complex, indicating a Leftist view of material value.  Neptune is, of course, the ruler of the political and economic Left.  This is why the Left has most of humanity's creative artists (who are usually poor), generally lives in dense cities near large bodies of water, exalts the foreign over the domestic, ascribes transcendent spiritual characteristics to mundane government, and both obsesses over and perpetuates poverty.

Bearing all this in mind, Piketty's astrological chart brings us no surprises.

Libertarian:  Pallas conjunct Mercury.  A genuine ethical awareness.
Authoritarian:  Pallas sesquiquadrate Jupiter, trine South Node, and ruled by Mars which is trine Pluto.  This is the full authoritarian trifecta, giving us a personality much more comfortable with force than with reason.  So much for Pallas-Mercury.

Leftist: Venus trine South Node, sesquiquadrate Neptune, and ruled by Mars which is sextile Neptune.  There is clearly a tendency towards a Left-wing or "magical" perception of value.

Ludwig von Mises argued that the general public needs to understand economics, so as to insure the survival of society.  I might make a similar assertion about how our astrology informs our views on human rights and economic theory.  The ideas that shape our society have planetary origins unknown to nearly all.

US-Funded Massacre in Odessa

Yesterday in Odessa, Ukraine, a pro-Kiev (meaning: US-backed) mob murdered 38 anti-Kiev demonstrators by driving them into a building which they then set on fire. As the US continues its proxy onslaught on Ukraine, it serves to justify the actions of alleged mass-murderer Vladimir Putin, who to educated onlookers is starting to look more and more like a reasonable and conscientious leader:  especially compared to the out-of-control American leadership

Pallas has just moved into a sesquiquadrate with Pluto which lasts for about three weeks.  Mass bloodshed is to be expected during this period whenever the other three factors of the Bloodbath Formula are also fulfilled.  This is a chart (time very approximate) for yesterday's atrocity.  This chart very likely also applies to yesterday's massacre of Muslims in India.

1.  Pallas sesquiquadrate Pluto.
2.  Mars, ruler of Venus, widely quincunx Neptune.
3.  Mars, ruler of Venus, square Pluto
4.  Pluto quindecile Moon and rules Fourth House.
5.  Sun trine Pluto
6.  (optional) Mercury conjunct Sun.

When Pallas, ruler of the libertarian non-aggression principle, is compromised, the worst of humanity comes out.  Joined with the other elements in the Bloodbath Formula, things sometimes turn deadly.

Bitcoin and Pluto (Part Two of Five)

As promised, Pluto has retrograded across a second conjunction with the Bitcoin Sun this week.  Like the first conjunction, this one has also coincided with annoying news (regarding the official status of Bitcoin in China) and a significant price drop.

While this is annoying to Bitcoin investors, the fact that Bitcoin has survived yet another Pluto conjunction intact is actually good news.  Pluto conjunctions are often life-changing events.  Here, however, we've only seen temporary setbacks.

Two down, three to go. The next one is actually next January, so there's a chance that the rest of the 2014 will be relatively calm.

We do have some transits in May and September involving Chiron on the Bitcoin "natal" chart.  Chiron usually brings the price down.  In August, Jupiter conjoins the Bitcoin Ascendant and South Node, which may be a bit of mixed news (some positive, some negative).  With Neptune conjunct progressed Venus for most of this year, it's conceivable that Bitcoin price growth might be suppressed overall.  With the world economy in such a precarious state, however, one might take all predictions with a large grain of salt.  Astrology or no: if a major currency collapses, Bitcoin is likely to rise.

I offer no advice, but I might be buying some Bitcoin myself this month.
