George Lucas

George Lucas, creator of the "Star Wars" universe, has clearly harbored an obsession with good and evil.  In particular, he was concerned with the process by which "good" individuals and entire societies turn "to the dark side".  His overall "Star Wars" narrative was in fact a story of the corruption of one individual (Anakin Skywalker / Darth Vader) and one society (The Galactic Republic / Empire).  A study of Lucas' astrological chart with a focus on Pallas shows both a deep inborn concern with ethics ("good and evil") and with the dangers of ethical corruption.

ApollonianSun at the midpoint of Pallas and Mercury.
DionysianPallas sextile Pluto and trine South Node; Pluto conjunct North Node and square Mercury, ruler of Pallas.
This is a "reverse whistleblower" configuration, which suggests strong ethical/libertarian tendencies to start with but which over time (thanks to the Nodes) slowly erode.  The "karma" of this chart is to become increasingly with age more and more subject to the Dionysian "dark side".  Lucas's career reflects this tendency very clearly:  with time his films gradually go "darker" and eventually he sells the entire franchise to parties who don't seem particularly concerned with the workings of good and evil at all.

New Star Wars helmsman JJ Abrams is clearly a more consistently skillful entertainer than the world-building Lucas, but he does not share Lucas' deep concern with what makes us "good" or drives us to "the dark side".  Abrams' heroes and villains (looking at his pre-"Star Wars" work) actually switch sides seemingly at random and without much provocation.  With Lucas no longer in control, his "Star Wars" universe may yield superior entertainments but run the risk of losing their ethical core.  We already see this in "The Force Awakens" in which the new evil empire appears essentially from nowhere and blithely eradicates the new Republic without a second thought.  This shows us that the new owners of "Star Wars" don't understand Lucas's message (which reflects real-world politics through history) that the Empire IS the Republic.

"Star Wars" itself may have just given in to the dark side.

ISIS Bombs Syrian Girls' School

Nine children have been killed following a rocket attack by (US-funded) Islamic State terrorists on a girls' school in Deir Ezzor, a region in the east of Syria. A further 15 children were injured.

The Bloodbath Formula on the chart for this event:
1.  Pallas conjunct Pluto, mitigated by Mercury.
2.  Neptune and the South Node in the Second House.
3.  Venus ruled by Pluto.
4.  Moon trine Pluto.
5.  Sun ruled by Saturn which is parallel Pluto.

This is moderately strong -- I believe we'd have seen more concurrent violence were Mercury not conjunct Pallas.

Bitcoin Up More

In this post I suggested the possibility that the Bitcoin price would peak in the first two weeks of this month, due to Jupiter conjoining the Bitcoin Saturn.  It did in fact do this, four days after the perfection of the transit... but then quickly rebounded and kept creeping upward.  So while Jupiter may have been a factor in the recent rise, it was apparently not the only factor.  So here are more upcoming astrological "inflection points" that may mark a potential peak (give or take five days or so).

January 8 2016:  transiting Neptune conjunct Bitcoin's progressed Venus.  I normally think of Neptune/Venus as a negative for price but it might also represent illusory value or unrealistic evaluation.  Also there is a Jupiter retrograde station very close to Bitcoin's Saturn the day before.  Maybe we're looking at a peak-and-crash.

February 8 2016:  transiting Jupiter conjoins Bitcoin's Saturn again.  Saturn rules a few of Bitcoin's planets including the Sun

February 23 2016:  transiting North Node conjunct Bitcoin's Saturn.

Paris Climate Deal

This is about the "Climate Deal" just signed in Paris by nearly 200 nations.

First, what should be obvious:  any deal that doesn't immediately enact the stand-down of all active US military forces abroad is bullshit.  The US military is the planet's biggest polluter, by far, even in peacetime.  Such a deal was, of course, not passed.  Therefore this past summit was basically just an excuse for world "leaders" to jet around the world, eat caviar together, snarl traffic in Paris with their security motorcades, and boast of their environmental compassion.  Anything of impact in the deal will do what all government environmental regulation does:  empower the oligarchs, squeeze the working class, stifle innovation, protect major corporations from competition by lean upstart competitors, and move natural resources from the ever-improving private sector to the ever-worsening government sector.  If this were about the Earth, the US military would be the item of discussion.

And that's all assuming that Anthropogenic Global Warming theory is correct.  I do not share this assumption, but acknowledge (as our overlords do not) that many theories of climate exist and that there is as yet no true consensus.

time is approximate

Neptune conjunct/parallel MC:  a big delusion/deception

Neptune trine Venus in Scorpio in the Fifth House:   said deception leading to a payoff in investments by the oligarchs.

Pallas conjunct Pluto:  "do what thou wilt" -- might makes right.  Ethics are for peasants.

Pallas parallel North Node:  the deal may slowly self-destruct as its illogic becomes obvious.

T-Square -- Uranus in Aries in the 10th opposite Mars in Libra in the Fourth, both square Pluto in Capricorn in the Seventh:  innovation in business besieged by populist environmental action and plutocratic power-grab from foreign national powers.

Jupiter conjunct North Node in the Fourth square Sun in Virgo in the Sixth:  a hyped-up environmental lobby (probably) overwhelms the needs of the workforce.

Saturn at the Sixth square Neptune at the MC:  worker infrastructure overruled by dreaming/delusion/deception.

Moon conjunct Mercury in the Sixth:  emotional language to soothe the masses about an economy-stunting measure that will inevitably kill many of their poor.

Percy Bysshe Shelley

The second chapter "Intellectuals" by Paul Johnson is about Percy Shelley.  Most of us know the romantic poet and political dreamer as the gentlest of souls, wishing nothing but love and peace to all.  I was therefore surprised a few years ago when I analyzed Shelley's chart, finding it to be much less "ethical" than mainstream history would portray him.  Johnson's book solved the puzzle for me.  It reveals that Shelley was, in reality, a human wrecking ball who spewed hatred and discord to everyone unfortunate enough to love him even as he radiated peace and goodwill to his audience.

Apollonian:   Pallas ruled by and conjunct Sun.
DionysianPallas opposite Pluto.
This puts Shelley in the "Statist"quadrant of "the Axis of Good and Evil".  Usually this results in the native espousing a philosophy of authoritarian government and usually war.  In this case Shelley seems to have compartmentalized his ethics, reserving peace and wisdom for the public and unleashing war in his private life.

Capitalist: none.
CollectivistVenus quintile Neptune (via Jupiter).
Shelley remarked, like a true Leftist, that private property should be abolished.  In his personal life he acknowledged no private property but his own, ruthlessly cheating and extorting friends, family, and creditors.

Conservative:  nothing.
LiberalMoon conjunct South Node, ruled by Neptune.

Shelley treated virtually everyone around him as objects to be used and discarded.  He was also arguably a murderer, having left one of his own children to die by refusing to raise it.  This prompts us to look for the Bloodbath Formula, which we easily find:
1.  Pallas opposite Pluto
2.  Venus quintile Neptune (via Jupiter).
3.  Venus opposite Pluto.
4.  Pluto trine both co-rulers of Moon
5.  Sun opposite Pluto.

Statist + Collectivist + Cultural Liberal + Bloodbath Formula --> hard authoritarian leftist.
Had Shelley not lived in the immediate aftermath of the French Revolution, I think he would have been a supporter of "public-minded" authoritarianism a la Rousseau.  Had he been born after Marx, I think he would have been a Marxist.

Stationary South Node in Pisces in the Twelfth House:  extreme mystical/spiritual/artistic inclinations in youth.

Neptune/Jupiter/Mars at Descendant opposite Saturn rising:  reflects both his ability to work to give solid form to dreams and ideals, and also his tendency to first hyper-idealize and then eventually attack his friends and lovers.

Fifth House concentration:  strong emphasis on self-expression, creativity, and romance.

Chiron in Cancer in the Fourth House:  permanently wounded family relations.

Sun/Venus/Pallas/Uranus stellium:  a rebellious bringer of beauty who (publicly) personified an ethic.  Venus/Pallas often represents charisma and may explain what must have been considerable charm.

Pallas parallel North Node:  had Shelley grown to be older, I suspect he would have gradually realized the error of his ways become a more ethical person.  Perhaps this configuration reflects also the fact that long after his death, he is remembered as a sort of ethical paragon and not as he actually was in life.

San Bernadino Shooting

At least 14 people dead and 14 more injured in mass shooting inside a California learning disability center.  I suggested in this post that we might see more bloodshed before the current Pallas-Pluto conjunction was up.  I see no reports of concurrent violent events, so the Bloodbath Formula in the event chart should be relatively weak.

Bloodbath Formula:

1.  Pallas conjunct Pluto.
2.  South Node at Second House cusp.
3.  Pluto square Mars (Second House ruler)
4.  Pluto trine Moon.
5.  Pluto parallel Sun

The expression of the formula here is weak, but transiting Pluto is currently novile California's Pallas and quincunx California's solar arc Pallas, making the state a bigger target than normal.  There's probably something similar going on with the charts for San Bernadino and the afflicted enterprise.

Obama is no doubt calling for population disarmament again, reminding me of why I'm sorry I was ever a left-liberal.  "Gun control" measures can only be a public good in a society where police response times are instantaneous and police never experience lapses in judgement or commit crimes.  Ha.

Turkey Prods Russia

Last week the Turkish military shot down a Russian fighter plane which had purportedly flown over Turkish airspace for approximately 17 seconds.  The Russians claim that the plane had never left Syrian airspace, where the Russians are bombing ISIS under an invitation from Syria.  The plane itself crashed in Syria, suggesting that the Russians are probably telling the truth.  Astute observers opine that this is no accident but both a Turkish retaliation for Russia's moves against ISIS (which enjoys Turkish support) and a "shot across the bow" from NATO either to pressure Russia to leave US-funded ISIS alone, or to provoke a larger confrontation.

When a person or collective entity (such as a nation) chooses to "pull the trigger" on violence or other irrevocable action, one astrological transit appears with stunning regularity.  It is, of course, the Pluto-to-Pallas transit.  In the astro-weather for the day of the shoot-down against Turkey's chart:

time unknown / irrelevant

Here we have transiting Pluto conjunct Syria Pallas, semisextile progressed Pallas, and square solar arc Pallas.  Russia is currently experiencing a similar transit, but one not nearly as strong

Bitcoin Up

The price of Bitcoin is up approximately 10% from its recent plateau of 320USD to about 350USD.
I suspect three possible factors for this:

1.  Transiting Venus at the Bitcoin IC (just peaked).
2.  Progressed Moon opposite Bitcoin Sun (peaked about a week or two ago).
3.  Transiting Jupiter conjoining Bitcoin Saturn, ruler of Bitcoin's Sun.  (peaks in about a week).

If Jupiter is the main driver (Venus' effects are noticeable but very short-lived), we may see a Bitcoin price peak in the first week or so of December.

Happy T-day!

Karma, Reincarnation, and Pallas

The doctrines of karma and reincarnation have been with humanity for millennia.  These concepts have been primarily dominant in the East but now also pervade modern Western cultures as well.  Together they posit that human life continues (more or less) forever, or until an individual human soul transcends this condition through wisdom and countless incarnations of spiritual practice.  A general accompanying assumption is that the reincarnating soul gains experience and wisdom over many eons of lives.  The soul here becomes "smarter" over time, learning through trial and error that some types of actions generate desirable results and others do not.

A logical conclusion to draw, then, would be that "older" souls will generally tend to behave better than "newer"souls.  Through the action of karma, they will have been "trained" by life to treat others with respect if not kindness and to avoid harming others.  Also, if the law of karma works as advertised, then "older" souls would tend to be less likely to fall into the age-old trap of "the end justifies the means".  The old soul would learn over time that to avoid the negative effects of karma which come from harming others, one must avoid harming others if at all possible, even if doing harm would ostensibly result in a net good.  In fact, the very idea karma itself suggests that harming others can never result in a net good (which calls for the question of whether believers in these doctrines who aren't libertarians are idiots, but this is beside the point).  The point is that "old souls" would tend towards libertarian ethics more than not.

As demonstrated by my published research ad nauseum, the disposition of the astrological Pallas on a chart reflects the libertarian or "Apollonian" character of the native.  Accordingly, if we accept the doctrines of karma and reincarnation, and the resulting assertions described above, then the natal disposition of Pallas can be seen as an indicator of the age of the soul.

If we accept all of this, then a number of conclusions follow:
  • If the population of Earth remains constant, its human inhabitants will become more libertarian with time as its souls learn the lessons of karma.
  • If humanity is not becoming more libertarian with time, we can blame it on the growth of the population and the resulting influx of "new" ("stupid") souls.
  • If humanity survives until the population decline projected (by population trends) for a few decades from now, it will from that point begin a long trend towards libertarianism.
  • Therefore, if humanity does not destroy itself, the institution of the State will "wither away".
  • Violent crime and fraud will disappear, as will war.
  • The "Kali Yuga" (the current eon of corruption and destruction, in Eastern thought) will end even if the current world is not destroyed.
  • Human births will start "clumping" around times when Pallas is well-placed, and/or the efficacy of Pallas as an indicator for libertarian temperament will slowly wane.
  • Most of what we know of the political Left, and much of the political Right, will vanish... as will political parties as we know them.  Humans will increasingly join voluntary communities of like-minded persons rather than work to force those of unlike-mind to their own ideologies.
  • The world will be predominantly capitalist.  Inequality of wealth will persist, but in this world the poorest will enjoy an acceptable standard of living because there will be no governments or criminals to destroy the economies they live in.
All of these conclusions are moot, of course, if reincarnation is true but successive incarnations do not necessarily occur in serial chronological order and on the same Earth. Or if the doctrine of reincarnation is false.

ISIS Caliphate

Today's topic is the chart of the Islamic "Caliphate" declared last year by ISIS (the "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, also known as ISIL, the "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant".  It is the closest we can probably get to a chart for ISIS itself, which has its roots in the US-funded "Mujahedin" during the Cold War and later morphed itself into "Al-Qaeda" and most recently "ISIS" -- largely with covert US government backing in its post-Mujahedin years (articles with some of this background are linked at the bottom).

There have been multiple proposed charts for the caliphate published on the internet.  I defer to authority here and will refer to the chart proposed by Geoffrey Cornelius and published on the Oxford Astrologer blog. In any event, the more original techniques I use here often do not require a precise time of day.

Apollonian/LibertarianPallas ruler Mercury trine North Node.
Dionysian/AuthoritarianPallas trine Pluto.
This combination puts us solidly in the "Criminal" quadrant of the Axis of Good and Evil, with the (decidedly non-guaranteed) potential of ending up somewhere in the "Statist" or even the "Libertarian" quadrant over time.  If this potential manifests, this could either mean a "mellowing out" of the terrorist group (as has occurred with various parties in the Israel/Palestine region) over time, or a dissolution of the group entirely.

CapitalistVenus ruler Mercury trine North Node.
Collectivist:   Venus square Neptune, in the Second houseSecond House co-ruler Uranus conjunct South Node.
The Leftist economic factors have it on this chart.  This Caliphate probably won't be an entrepreneur's paradise.

Conservative?:  Moon in Leo conjunct Jupiter in Cancer which is square the Nodes.
LiberalSouth Node conjunct IC; Moon quincunx NeptuneMoon ruler Sun trine Neptune.
On one hand, we have an over-the-top strong tendency to identify with and promote a particular idea of culture.  On the other, we have multiple very strong impulses to destroy/dissolve culture.  This, I think, reflects the ISIS mission of promoting its own extremist Islam by destroying every other culture.  In most entities, this configuration would actually indicate a strong "liberal" leaning.

Bloodbath Formula
1.  Pallas trine Pluto.
2.  Venus square Neptune, in the Second house.
3.  Venus contraparallel Pluto and ruled by Mercury which is quindecile Pluto.
4.  Moon biquintile Pluto and ruled by Sun (opposite Pluto); Fourth House ruler Mars square Pluto.
5.  Sun opposite Pluto.
As we might expect from the extraordinarily bloody activities of this group, the Bloodbath Formula is unusually strong here.

criminal ethics + collectivism + hyped-up cultural-revolutionism + homicidal tendencies?
These folks are "Social Justice Warriors" on steroids, with guns. If we bear in mind that SJW's primarily attack liberal white Westerners who already believe in liberal "social justice", and ignore the truly unjust/sexist/racist cultures (Saudi Arabia, much of Islam, "hip-hop" culture, etc.) then we can more easily see the connection.  Both ISIS and SJW's knowingly or unknowingly serve to weaken modern liberal civilization in favor of authoritarian control.

Pluto in Capricorn Rising:  interacting with the world by destroying its structure.

Sun in Cancer on the Descendant:  making its culture (Cancer) "shine" (Sun) in foreign lands.

Saturn in Scorpio quincunx Uranus in Aries:  disrupting power structures and institutionalizing disruption.

North Node parallel Neptune:  ISIS' destiny may lie in dissolution, or genuine spirituality, or in drug trafficking...  only time will tell.

Terror in Paris

Reports of massive, multiple simultaneous incidents of violence in Paris, France -- apparently by one or more Islamic terror groups.  There are, however, no simultaneous reports of violence in other parts of the world (at least on Drudge, the best general news source I've encountered yet).  So it should be no surprise for those familiar with this blog that we should find a weak Bloodbath Formula (a stronger one would result in more cases of simultaneous violence around the world), and a strong Pluto-to-Pallas transit against the national chart for France (accounting for the localization of the violence).

exact time unknown -- "late Friday"

Bloodbath Formula
1.  Pallas conjunct Pluto (just forming -- more trouble coming soon!)
2.  Venus quincunx Neptune.
3.  Venus widely square Pluto.
4.  Moon semisextile Pluto.
5.  Sun ruled by Pluto.

Again, this is not very strong.  We will almost certainly see stronger expressions of the formula in the next month or so.  Nevertheless, this pattern was enough to set off the violent potential inherent in Pluto's current transit against the chart for France:

Transiting Pluto at the France MC, trine France Pallas, square progressed Pallas, and sextile solar arc Pallas.  An extremely strong message that the ethics which keep the peace and comprise civilization are to be sorely tested.

Jean-Jacques Rousseau

It is a common trope in popular science fiction that the best thing one can do for humanity if one owns a time machine is to travel back to the early 20th century and kill Hitler.  If I had a time machine, however, (and the hubris to think I could single-handedly change history for the better) I would not kill Hitler.  I would instead kill Jean-Jacques Rousseau.

Jean-Jacques Rousseau was the popular 18th-century novelist and political theorist who originated many of the concepts which underlie today's extremely dysfunctional political systems, including but not limited to:

1.  Totalitarian government as replacement for the family.
2.  "The Social Contract".
3.  Private property and civilization itself as an alienation from nature.
4.  The superiority of sudden (violent) revolution over gradual progress.

Without these ideas?  No French Revolution, no Karl Marx, no Lenin, no Stalin, no Mussolini, no Hitler, no Mao, no Pol Pot, no Castro, no Trotsky and therefore no American Neoconservative movement.  No welfare state, but the private charities the State displaced.  No Leftist revolutionary movements and therefore no reactionary Right-wing movements.  No State-worshiping hyper-nationalism and therefore no world wars.  No hypocritical "watermelon" environmental movement: just market incentives to preserve resources and natural diversity.

If there were no Jean-Jacques Rousseau, perhaps there would have been another to codify and popularize these ideas.  Or maybe we would have had centuries of relatively peaceful and boring human progress through technology and slow trial-and-error rather than centuries of exciting but horrifying bloodshed and violent revolution.

ApollonianPallas quintile North Node; Pallas co-ruler Jupiter quincunx Sun and indirectly connected to Mercury; Pallas co-ruler Neptune sextile Sun and indirectly connected to Mercury.
DionysianPallas and Pallas co-ruler Jupiter quincunx Pluto; Pallas co-ruler Neptune trine Pluto and square Jupiter.
The Dionysian side is quite a bit stronger than the Apollonian side here, putting Rousseau somewhere between "Criminal" and "Statist" on "the Axis of Good and Evil". The chart suggests a fundamentally unethical person, albeit one with enough logical faculties to make him potentially much more dangerous than a completely Dionysian personality.  This is a typical strong-authoritarian chart.

CapitalistVenus/ruler quincunx North Node.
CollectivistVenus semisquare Neptune.
This signature is unclear to me.  Mixed signatures like this often end up on the "capitalist" side of the line, but perhaps the Venus/Node connection would need to be a hair stronger to nudge it there in my opinion.

ConservativeNorth Node quincunx Venus (ruler of Moon) too weak to count?
LiberalMoon conjunct Neptune, Moon ruler Venus semisquare Neptune, Fourth House ruler Jupiter square Neptune, South Node in Cancer.
We might call Rousseau a "hyper-liberal" in the cultural sense.  The urge to "kill the culture" indicated here is extremely strong.

Strong authoritarian + economically vague + extreme cultural liberal = the man who would remake his culture in his own image?

Rousseau likely murdered most of his five children: he condemned them all to the state orphanage wherein the survival rate was horrifically low, rather than raise them or see to their upbringing.  Also, his ideas have inspired the political systems responsible for the deaths of hundreds of millions over the past two centuries.  So we find the astrological Bloodbath Formula:

1.  Pallas and Pallas co-ruler Jupiter quincunx Pluto; Pallas co-ruler Neptune trine Pluto and square Jupiter.
2.  Venus semisquare Neptune.
3.  Venus parallel Pluto.
4.  Moon trine Pluto.
5.  Sun parallel/sextile Pluto.

"The Dark Side of the Force is strong in this one."

Jupiter/Moon-Neptune/Saturn T-square:  the solidification/codification (Saturn) of a philosophy (Jupiter) of social change (Moon/Neptune).

The Saturn-Pallas sesquiquadrate reflects someone who has the potential ability to codify his particular form of ethics/logic, as compromised as they may be.

Saturn in Leo square the Moon seems to reflect his extremely poor treatment of women (Moon) as a reflection of his own authoritarian egotism (Saturn in Leo).

Jupiter in Aquarius in the Fifth House in aspect to virtually everything:  Rousseau promoted himself to all as the greatest humanitarian who ever existed.

Chiron on the Sixth, and Mars in aspect to North Node, Venus, and Mercury:  I've seen these connections in the chart of a person with hypospadias, from which Rousseau also suffered.  I haven't researched this condition, but the astrological configuration is striking.

Sun conjunct South Node; Pluto quincunx Jupiter in the Fifth:  Killed.  His.  Own.  Children.

Part of Fortune conjunct South Node in Cancer:  fortune through misfortune, or by leeching wealth from women?

In the book "Intellectuals" by Paul Johnson, one can read about the horrible man behind the horrible ideas.

Somebody invent the goddamn time machine already.

US Ground Troops Invade Syria

This Halloween, the embattled nation of Syria faced a new horror.  In the latest move of the deadly  ongoing chess match between Barack Obama and Vladimir Putin, the US has just moved ground troops into Syria.  This is ostensibly to fight ISIS but educated observers tend to know that this is a move to destabilize Assad, in contravention to Russia's recent move to protect his regime.  Russia is in Syria by invitation -- the US presence there is unwelcome, illegal, conveniently strengthens ISIS, and is responsible for the the "migrant crisis" and accompanying Swedish rape epidemic

Syria's chart currently suffers from:

Solar arc Pluto conjunct Syria Ascendant, Syria Jupiter, progressed Mars:  change and death.

Transiting Chiron and Uranus in aspect to Syria Ascendant: injury and shock.

Transiting Pluto opposite US Sun: crisis/death.

Solar arc Saturn conjunct US descendant: bringing difficulty to others.

Transiting Mars/Venus conjunct US Neptune in the Ninth House and square US Mars:  covert (Neptune) action (Mars) in the international sphere (Ninth House) probably involving money (Venus).  Note that transiting Mars happens to aspect the natal Mars of both Obama and Putin.

Progressed Moon square US Pallas:  warriors/soldiers/fighting.

Solar arc Uranus in Aquarius conjunct US South Node in the Second House:  perhaps representing USgov's illogically lashing out at the world (Uranus in Aquarius) in an idiotic attempt to stem the results of its own failed economic policy (South Node in the Second).

I am ashamed that I pay taxes.  Ashamed.

The Piscean Dialectic

The "Hegelian Dialectic" is a popular model for understanding -- and instigating -- change.  In the libertarian/conspiracy-theorist division of modern political culture, it is also known as "Problem-Reaction-Solution".  Both terms are actually centuries old, but it is possible that most persons aware of either term today learned it directly or indirectly from conspiracy researcher David Icke
Conspiracy-research folks point to the model entirely as a method used by the malevolent elites of humanity to deceive the masses and in doing so increase their power.  This view of the model, which can apply to a great many events in political history, has three parts:

1.  Thesis or "Problem" -- the elites bring a striking situation to public attention.  The 9-11 attack, for example, to which many point as a classic "false flag operation".

2.  Antithesis or "Reaction" -- public outcry or panic to the situation.  In the case of the 9-11 attack, public outrage and fear.

3.  Synthesis or "Solution"  -- the government's response to the situation, which always comes in the form of a type of increased authoritarianism desired by the elites.  In the case of the 9-11 attack, this is the Patriot Act, the War or Terror, and the exponential accompanying growth of US federal power.

In the conspiracy-research formulation of the model, the thesis or problem which elicits the public reaction is nearly always initiated deliberately by the elites, usually as a false flag operation but also often as a manufactured social or environmental crisis.  The "solution" provided by the elites always furthers their own ends and never actually solves the problem (for example, the "War on Terror" actually generates more terror, the "War on Poverty" has created more poverty, and the "War on Drugs" exacerbates the worst problems of drug use).

This conspiracy-research school of thought (to which I belong to more than not), tends to view 9-11, Anthropogenic Global Warming, and the beginnings of most wars and grand public governmental initiatives as examples of the Hegelian Dialectic or Problem-Reaction-Solution.  Once a political observer truly understands the model and the nature of political authority, that observer sees the model at work everywhere

This ubiquitous governance and control through deception is, I believe, another symptom of the Age of Pisces.  It can never be repeated enough that Neptune, planetary ruler of Pisces, rules deception and delusion.  If astrology works and we are indeed in an age ruled by Neptune, we should expect that deception and delusion are among the most powerful driving forces in the world during this period.  The libertarian and conspiracy-aware do in fact see that they are, and that the Hegelian Dialectic is part of how deception and delusion weave into the very fabric of our society.

Before I get to the point of this post, let me say that I neither embrace nor reject the major religions, including Christianity.  I am agnostic in the sense that I do not feel qualified to make sweeping statements on the absolute truth about the nature of the cosmos.  I can merely observe and point out connections that strike me as interesting and/or relevant.

Disclaimers done, here goes:

It is possible to see the very basis of the (Piscean-Age) Christian religion...

...as the prime example of the Hegelian Dialectic or Problem-Reaction-Solution.  To wit:

1.  Thesis or "Problem" -- man is sinful and imperfect

2.  Antithesis or "Reaction" -- this will lead to eternal damnation.

3.  Synthesis or "Solution" -- therefore you must submit to Christ and His church

The thesis in this formulation can (arguably) be assumed to be true.  The antithesis and synthesis of the formulation are articles of faith and cannot, to my understanding, be proven by any purely logical means.

Many politically inclined Christians in the West point to the Hegelian Dialectic (and its cousin Marxism) as a tool of the Devil.  But what if Christianity itself is the original Hegelian Dialectic?

I am probably not the first to make this connection.

Timothy Olyphant

The charts of actors tend to reflect the characters they portray.  Timothy Olyphant is regularly cast as a hero gunslinger with anger issues and a bit of a "sliding scale" of morality.  He has played this role in TV series' "Justified", "Deadwood", the movie "Hitman", and probably a number of other productions in his career.

time unknown

ApollonianPallas trine Sun and square Mercury
DionysianPallas conjunct Pluto
As per his characters, a very "the end justifies the means" kind of configuration.  Leaning toward the ethical/Apollonian but with a very strong Dionysian component.

Unaspected Mars:  corresponding, pernaps, with the anger issues and somewhat awkward sexuality of his most famous roles.

Moon opposite or quindecile Pallas:  potential facility in combat.

Sun/Jupiter/Neptune T-square:  perhaps suggesting a knack for "disappearing" (Neptune) into "public champion" (Jupiter in Leo) roles.

Bitcoin Rising

Bitcoin has been slowly climbing this week.  Jupiter's transiting square to the Bitcoin Sun peaked yesterday, and the price is still rising.  This suggests the possibility that the fulcrum of the current rise may be the final conjunction of transiting Pluto to the Bitcoin Sun (see this for graphic) around Nov 10, next month.  If this is the case, we might expect a price peak within a few days of that date.

Ankara Suicide Bombings

Suicide bombings have killed 95 in a peace rally in Ankara, Turkey today.

The Bloodbath Formula on the chart for the event:
1.  Pluto trine Jupiter, ruler of Pallas.
2.  Venus opposite Neptune.
3.  Pluto in the Second House.
4.  Moon trine Pluto.
5.  Sun square Pluto.

Against the chart for Turkey, we have transiting Pluto conjunct Turkey's Pallas (the "ethical crisis transit").  Transiting Mars/Jupiter on Turkey's North Node are probably also relevant.  Transiting Uranus conjunct Turkey's Chiron reflects an unexpected wounding.

California Euthanasia Law

California governor Jerry Brown has recently approved a law legalizing physician-assisted suicide.   Transits for the day of the signing (time unknown) against the California chart and Brown's chart, are of interest.

Transiting Pallas conjunct progressed Chiron; transiting Chiron conjunct progressed Pallas:  ethics plus medicine.

Transiting Chiron at California IC:  medicine plus death.

Transiting Pluto conjunct progressed Venus:  destruction of value (death).

Transiting Pluto sextile Brown Pallas and quintile progressed Pallas:  the "ethical crisis" transit.  At least these two aspects aren't peaking at the same time, or we'd likely be seeing Brown doing something more spectacular.  "Spectacular" in politics usually is not a good thing.

The Axis of Good and Evil

As you can see from my astro-political classification system, political ideologies reside in what can be depicted as a three-dimensional matrix of planetary energies.  But while it can be helpful to view the Pallas/Ethics axis as a one-dimensional scale, we can more accurately describe it as a two-dimensional graph with separate axes for "Apollonian" energy and "Dionysian" energy as indicated by astrological patterns.  Crudely drawing such a graph and then mapping it roughly to the libertarian-authoritarian scale, we then have something like this:

We can split the graph into four approximate categories:

Weak Apollonian - Weak Dionysian:  "Unconcerned"
These folks are generally not interested in political or ethical ideology and are not particularly criminal, either.  They don't wind up as "front page news" as often as the other types and are not common in politics unless they inherit political dynasties.  George W Bush fits here (Dick Cheney probably ran the W presidency).

Weak Apollonian - Strong Dionysian:  "Criminal"
We find a lot of non-political, "small-time" criminals in this category.  Persons residing here often don't have the foresight or the discipline to rise to political power... unless heavily backed by a political machine pulling strings from behind the curtain.  Barack Obama lives here: he seems primarily interested in his own power and in courting the parties that will give it to him.  He shows few signs of possessing an ethical compass to those able to see beyond the thousand-watt smile.

Strong Apollonian -Weak Dionysian:  "Libertarian"
The strictly ethical and the uncompromising of principle live here.  Libertarians and peaceniks are the political wing of this group, including Ron Paul and company

Strong Apollonian - Strong Dionysian:  "Statist"
While not as "fully evil" as the second group, members of this last category are potentially the most destructive.  They have the the Dionysian drive to destruction but also enough Apollonian intelligence to build large structures for bringing this drive to its fullest fruition.  These types usually also have goals which are themselves based on "Apollonian" ethics, but also possess the Dionysian willingness to suspend ethics entirely in pursuit of their goals.  This group is extremely well-represented in politics and includes most of history's mega-murderer political "strongmen" including Mao, Stalin, Hitler, etc.

In the imperfect moral/ethical classification system of the Dungeons and Dragons role playing game, the Unconcerned group of this chart might be "neutral", the Libertarian group might be "good", the Criminal group might be "chaotic evil" and the Statist group might be "lawful evil".  In the real world, very few consciously identify as "evil" and virtually all self-identify as "good".  We would do well to not take anyone at their word (especially persons in power) but judge them by their actions.

The usual disclaimer applies:  while "good" configurations nearly always indicate persons who won't willingly do harm, "evil" configurations only suggest a potential for wrongdoing,

Umpqua College Shooting

Another mass school shooting today, in a Southern Oregon college.  In a gun-free zone.  The charts for mass-murder events virtually always carry a complex configuration I call the Bloodbath Formula.  Today's configuration also connects to Russia's commencement of bombing of ISIS-related targets in Syria, the latest development in an ongoing feud between liberal "change-bringer" Barack Obama and the tactically shrewd conservative Vladimir Putin

1.  Pallas ruler Jupiter trine Pluto.
2.  Second House ruler Jupiter opposite Neptune; Venus ruler Sun quincunx Neptune.
3.  Pluto in the Second House, square Sun (ruler of Venus).
4.  Pluto sesquiquadrate Moon.
5.  Pluto square Sun

Putin Versus Obama

Vladimir Putin is no saint.  He's probably a mass-murderer and is no supporter of general civil liberties in Russia.  He's is also apparently ignorant of economics, having both rescued the Russian economy with massive tax cuts and hobbled it with trade embargoes.  But in the world of foreign relations today he is the most adept and wise major player in the game.  And the world is a better and more peaceful place for it.

First, some recent history.

2013: during which the Barack Obama and the US government sought to invade Syria under the pretext of charges which would later prove to be unsubstantiated or even fraudulent.  This new war was stopped by none other than Vladimir Putin, who, seizing on an offhand comment by John Kerry, maneuvered an agreement forcing the US to back down or lose the war for public opinion.  The US would then resort to a more covert strategy of funding ISIS while pretending to fight them: the primary enemy of ISIS is the Assad regime in Syria.

After the Ukrainian government in late 2013 rejected an economic deal with the EU in favor of a better deal from Russia, US-backed forces overthrew the Ukrainian government.  The new government includes powerful neo-Nazi and anti-Russian factions -- one of its first actions was to take legal steps to marginalize the use of the Russian language.  Predominantly-Russian Crimea then voted overwhelmingly to secede from Ukraine and rejoin Russia.  Western governments decry the referendum as fraudulent because of Russian troops moved there after the Ukrainian coup; other parties point out that Russia had an existing agreement with Crimea to have troops there and that the mostly-Russian Crimean population feared for its safety under the new Ukrainian regime.  From what I can tell, the more educated, honest, and thoughtful parties in the debate tend to side with Russia here.

Now in the present day, the US has recently authorized itself to conduct attacks on Syrian soil.  This is ostensibly to attack ISIS, but in reality seems more likely to weaken Assad.  Again Putin has stepped in, sending Russian troops to fight ISIS and bolster Assad.  Putin is in this way directly working against actual US interests (which want Assad gone) -- while helping promote the cause which the US purports to stand for (fighting ISIS).

What we have here is a pattern:  Obama's America makes a move to expand its power overseas, and Putin's Russia then counters with a move that demonstrates superior intelligence, foresight, diplomatic gamesmanship, and ethical integrity.  Obama is outmatched by a far superior opponent, and the world death-toll from US wars is significantly lower for it.

A couple of astrological notes here, comparing the US chart with Obama's and Putin's.

Putin's Mars opposes the US Mars and squares Obama's Mars.  Hence:  conflict.  The opposition is easier to reconcile than the square despite being a more powerful aspect.  This may suggest that while Putin most certainly will work against Obama's interests, he does not necessarily work against American interests.

Also interesting (though I haven't done much with Pallas-Mars in synastry) is that Putin's Mars squares Obama's Pallas but sextiles the US Pallas.  This may well be a metaphor that Putin's skillful meddling works against Obama's "ethics" but actually agrees with the general "ethics" of the US itself.

I'm sure there's a lot more wealth to mine out of the comparison of these charts.

Boehner Bails

John Boehner, the "RINO King" and Speaker of the US House of Representatives, has announced that he is stepping down.  This is under intense pressure from the Republican rank and file who in turn are under pressure from their conservative base to defund Planned Parenthood, in the wake of recent scandals.  It's probably fair to say that the Republicans are eager to rediscover their purported conservatism as the 2016 election looms near.

John Boehner's natal birth time and the time of today's announcement are unknown to me, but there's still plenty of data to pick over when we look at Boehner's astro-weather for today.

Transiting stationary Pluto conjunct Boehner Venus; transiting Venus conjunct Boehner Pluto:  the death of the "gravy train".

Transiting Saturn conjunct (waning) Boehner Sun:  the end of a year or so of great pressure.

Transiting Uranus, Chiron, and Pallas aspecting Boehner Pluto:  unexpected developments, injury, and ethics/strategy triggering (a type of) death.

Solar arc Mars square Boehner Pluto:  again with the death thing.  Perhaps also representing a challenge against one's own Plutonian power.

Repuglicans, will you please pick better leaders in the future?

Gail Tredwell's Holy Hell

This subject is slightly "off-topic" in that it does not concern politics.  It is "on topic" in that it involves a crisis of conscience (conscience and ethics being the center of libertarianism) and also in that religion and politics are held by many libertarians to be the same phenomenon.

I've recently read the book "Holy Hell" by Gail Tredwell.  Tredwell was for two decades the chief attendant to the very popular Hindu spiritual guru Ammachi.  The book chronicles the author's entry into the service of the guru and the long series of events, from her point of view, leading to her disillusionment and exit.  The publication of the book created a furor in India and worldwide, though Ammachi and her organization have largely brushed off the controversy (Ammachi is at this point extremely politically connected and can probably escape serious threats to her power even if the worst allegations against her are true).

Tredwell alleges in her book that Ammachi is physically and psychologically abusive, has been secretly funneling money from her multi-million-dollar charities to her family, and has been lying about personal details such as celibacy.  Ammachi's organization has denied Tredwell's claims.  Parties connected to Ammachi have accused Tredwell of deception and mental illness.

Not having first-hand knowledge of either party, I take no official stand.  This said, my own astrological methods (demonstrated in hundreds if not thousands of cases in my online material) strongly support one side of the dispute.

First:  Ammachi's horoscope contains the Bloodbath Formula including an extremely "Dionysian" Pallas conjunction to the South Node.  This is no guarantee of wrongdoing but is highly consistent with the guru's unfavorable depiction in "Holy Hell".  I won't spell out the chart here, but it's easy enough to verify using one or two minor aspects.

Second:  The chart I propose for Gail Tredwell fits her own self-description very well.  I assembled this chart from the birthday and approximate hometown location in the book, plus the year of birth from the Wikipedia article about her.  Using a default time of 12 noon gives us a number of very striking house placements which work well with Tredwell's narrative.  There may be other times that also work (for example, near sunset might explain some of the her health issues while arguably fitting with the narrative).

ApollonianPallas septile Sun and quintile Mercury; Pallas ruler Venus conjunct/parallel Sun.
DionysianPallas in Eighth House semisextile Pluto.
This is an extremely "Apollonian", or ethical, chart.  This configuration is inconsistent with someone who would harm innocents for revenge or personal gain.

Ninth House concentration:  teaching, philosophy/religion, travel, publishing, or some combination thereof.  She's done all of these.

Sun/Venus conjunct near MC:  publicly embodying grace and/or beauty.  She apparently did this as Ammachi's public "number two" for decades.

Mercury/Saturn in the Tenth House:  managing and coordinating Ammachi's organization were central to her work there.

Moon in the Twelfth:  emotional connection to spirituality, a spiritual "mother figure", a possible lack of nourishment, and possible deception involved in all of these.

T-square between Uranus in the Sixth, Jupiter in the Ninth, and Moon in the Twelfth:  tension between the rebellious servant, the secret life of the mother/family, and the public face of it all.

Pluto in Virgo at the Seventh House cusp:  "marriage" to an extremely powerful, controlling, potentially violent yet "virginal" personality.

South Node in the Second House:  the giving away of one's stuff.  Repeatedly.

Mars in the Third opposite Sun/Venus:  sexual violence from a "sibling" is described in the book.

Third:  transits/progressions for Tredwell's "escape" as described in the book are also interesting.

Progressed Pallas conjunction to North Node:  the peak of a process lasting many years involving the awareness of ethics.  Decisions coming out of this sort of aspect tend in retrospect to be on the "right side of history".   This corresponds extremely well with the "crisis of conscience" Tredwell describes in her book.

Transiting Mercury, Pallas, Venus, Saturn, and Uranus triggering Tredwell's natal Moon-Jupiter-Uranus T-square.  Something very significant was going to happen under this configuration.

Transiting Ceres sextile Tredwell Sun and progressed Ceres probably square Tredwell Moon:  Ceres/Sun/Moon patterns appear when people are "taken away".

All of this "proves" nothing.  But were I forced to choose a side in this battle, the astrology (at least the way I practice it) would put me in the Tredwell camp.

I find the entire realm of spiritual enlightenment and its purported representatives (saintly and otherwise) to be utterly fascinating.  More posts on the topic may appear here, in part because I often get bored with politics.

Pablo Escobar

I've just binge-watched most of Season 1 of the Netflix series "Narcos", chronicling the career of Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar and the campaign by governments to bring him down.  Escobar was an infamous mass-murderer on top of being a supremely successful drug dealer.  Violent criminals are philosophically "anti-libertarian" or "Dionysian" and their astrological charts share features reflecting this.  In the case of murderers, the Bloodbath Formula will virtually always appear in the birth chart.

Escobar's Bloodbath Formula:
1.  Pallas square Jupiter, conjunct South Node, and ruled by Venus which is contraparallel Pluto.
2.  Venus square Neptune.
3.  Venus contraparallel Pluto.
4.  Moon trine Pluto.
5.  Sun trine/contraparallel Pluto.

Some other aspects of interest:

Moon-Jupiter-Neptune T-square:  befitting a distributor of drugs.

South Node conjunct Neptune and North Node in the Second House:  converting drugs into money. I've seen the North Node in the Second in the charts of other successful businessmen (both legal and otherwise).

Pisces Rising:  again with the drug dealing

Mars conjunct Saturn in the Seventh:  the Mars/Saturn connection seems to come up (in my experience) in the charts of builders of organizations.  In the Seventh it may also suggest struggles with partners and enemies.

Had Escobar focused more on his political career and less on his drug empire, he might have made less money but had a much longer career as a criminal.  For the State is the most powerful criminal organization of all, and it will always neutralize or kill its competition.

The Apollonian - Dionysian Spectrum

I had never heard of the Apollonian - Dionysian dichotomy until the Promethean Antagonist had mentioned it to me a few months ago.  Though it is a centuries-old concept and is central to the works of major philosophers from the mid-19th century onward, it is almost nowhere to be found in mainstream culture.

The idea is that we can separate human drives into two modalitites:

Apollonian:  logical, civilized, disciplined.  Associated with the Sun.
Dionysian:  irrational, emotional, chaotic.  Arguably connected with Pluto and/or Neptune.

Libertarians familiar with the underpinnings of their own political philosophy may recognize that libertarianism is deeply Apollonian.  Libertarianism at its core is based on rationality and non-aggression (reflecting a predilection for solving problems through dialogue and consensus rather than by force).  The statist impulse is one of Dionysian irrationality:  the sword before the pen and the battlefield before the negotiating table.  Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged can be said to depict a version of this dichotomy, fusing it directly with the libertarian-authoritarian spectrum.

When we include the astrological Pallas in the mix, and peruse the thousands of examples of natal and event charts on this blog and associated web site, we can see that the Apollonian - Dionysian dichotomy is all about astrology.  Literally, and directly.  I believe that Nietzsche, Freud, Rand, Paglia, and others when discussing this dichotomy were actually discussing the astrological Pallas in different configurations.  We can express the dichotomy thus:

ApollonianPallas (or ruler) with Sun, Mercury, and/or North Node.
DionysianPallas (or ruler) with Pluto, discordant aspect from Jupiter, and/or with South Node.

Apollonian aspects and transits give us Apollonian traits and actions. Libertarians and liberty, peacemakers and peace treaties. These things are effects of the "Apollonian" traits of favoring logic over emotion and impulse control over surrender to the id.

Dionysian aspects and transits give us Dionysian traits and actions.  Statism, stupidity, war, killings, rape, and those who perpetrate such things.  These are effects of the "Dionysian" tendency to surrender to emotion and favor action over full logical consideration.

Again, I refer to the thousands of examples in my online materials including this blog.  The correspondences between the astrological aspects and the sides of the dichotomy are so strong (not merely "statistically significant" but near-total) that one might well take them as "proof" that astrology itself is valid.

In past, I've used different terms to describe the astrology of the Pallas spectrum (and the Apollonian - Dionysian dichotomy).  I've described "Apollonian" Pallas aspects as "libertarian" or "defensive" and "Dionysian" aspects as "authoritarian" or "aggressive" for years.  In the future, I'll try to use "Apollonian" and "Dionysian" so as to better relate my work to the rich existing body of Western philosophy.

Hungary Migrant Crisis

Hungary is flooding with immigrants, refugees from the Middle East and Africa fleeing the aftermath of US military interventions instigated by Barack Obama.

Current transits/etc. against the Hungarian independence chart are relevant:

Transiting Pluto in Fourth House square Hungary Mars (ruler of Seventh):  a destructive force (Pluto) on the land (Fourth House) involving "others" (Seventh House).

Transiting Neptune (foreigners) entering Sixth House (population).

Transiting Jupiter (expansion) and North Node (increase) entering Twelfth House (foreigners).

Transiting Saturn conjunct progressed MC:  visible troubles.

Solar Arc Neptune (dissolution, foreigners) conjunct Hungary Moon (people, culture, race).

"Hope and Change", European style.

Serban Rusu

This post is "off-topic", being a survey of the astrological chart of an individual whose political views were not known to the general public, and whose life was primarily one of not politics but music.  Nevertheless, I suspect that this material will be of interest to some who may happen upon it by web search.  The subject was a truly influential person in my life and an inspiration to those fortunate enough to have known him.  Here I confine myself to a few biographical points and some observations on the birth chart.  Should I write a longer tribute in the future, it will probably appear not here but on my personal site

Serban Rusu (March 31, 1943 -- June 24, 2015) was a Romanian-born violinist and violin teacher who moved to America in early adulthood and stayed for the rest of his life.  He was a superlative violinist and a truly outstanding teacher who began his teaching career as assistant to Josef Gingold.  Not content with merely imparting his vast musical knowledge, he never stopped innovating in search of new approaches to violin technique and new ways to teach.  His former students who play professionally tend to dominate whatever context they work in, due to having received Serban's far-superior-to-the-norm training.  They tend to display both exquisite technique and deep musicianship, and are a legacy of which Serban was justifiably proud.

Not only was Serban a great music teacher but also an inspirational figure who taught everyone around him to live with both chutzpah and grace, a sort of Romanian "Zorba the Greek" or a Right-wing Robin Williams.  He was, at turns, consummate artist and brilliant clown, Zen master and hedonist, philosopher and fool.  He was often infuriating and always inspiring, deftly navigating in life, what he saw as an all-important balance, in music, between the vulgar and the sublime.  His genius and his generosity could not help but enrich the lives of the many with whom he shared his great light.  Even as he battled a crippling Parkinsons'-like disease in the last third of this life, he never lost his spirit, his optimism, or his drive to wring every last drop of experience from the time he had left.

I don't have a time of birth for Serban, and do not have a precise location (he was born in a part of Romania that is now in Ukraine).  Using a default time of 12 noon gives us many house placements which correspond well with his personal traits.  I've taken the liberty of moving the proposed time of birth to 11:30am. This gives puts Jupiter rising (fitting his outsized temperament), the North Node in the Second (fitting his departure from Communism, his financial success, and his decidedly conservative politics), Neptune at the IC (reflecting his love of the water and nautical pursuits, and his determination to live by the ocean), Pallas at the MC trine the Ascendant (perhaps, prominent intelligence and physical agility), and Juno at the Descendant (perhaps representing his wife Kyoko, whose commitment to Serban was unwavering and total).  In addition, using a "primary direction" technique, a time of 11:30am puts the Moon on the Descendant around when he relocated to the US and Mars on the Descendant when he married Kyoko.  Finally, relocating this 11:30am chart to his home of Tiburon, California, puts his Sun in the Third House of communication (as befits a teacher), the Moon on the Second House cusp (his home was beautifully and lavishly decorated) and Saturn in the Fifth (he and Kyoko had no children of their own).  I am no expert in rectification but feel "pretty good" about 11:30am.

Great musicians tend to have mysterious/transcendent Neptune in relationship to one or both of the Luminaries and/or some equivalent configuration.  Here we have the Sun widely opposite Neptune (bridged by helpful Mercury conjunct the Sun).  Neptune is also conjunct the IC and sesquiquadrate Mars, ruler of the Sun.  This gives us strong embodiment of Neptune's otherworldly powers without, perhaps, some of the pitfalls (such as delusional or self-destructive tendencies) that sometimes accompany hard Sun-Neptune aspects.

Great instrumentalists, in my experience, also tend to carry a complex which combines Venus (art/aesthetics), Mars (action), and Saturn (structure/discipline).  Here we have Venus square Mars which in turn is ruled by and trine Saturn.

The violin is an instrument requiring great physical dexterity.  In my experience this is indicated by connections from Pallas (intelligence/skill) to Mars and/or the Ascendant.  This chart has a prominent Pallas at the MC trine the Ascendant.

Jupiter in Cancer on the Ascendant:  Serban was a generous and outspoken teacher (Jupiter on the Ascendant) whose primary activity (Ascendant) was to nurture and develop (Cancer) young (and not-so-young) musicians.

Jupiter square Sun and quincunx Mars:  this tense "fire planet triangle" seems to reflect his seemingly endless excitement and optimism... which would sometimes result in spectacular clashes with those around him.

Sun conjunct Mercury in Aries in the Tenth House:  aggressively communicative, brilliantly intellectual, and brashly opinionated.  In a very public way.

Pluto in the First House:  while he would certainly nurture and inspire his students, he would also often dominate them.

Saturn conjunct Uranus in the Eleventh House:  perhaps representing his clashes with fellow teachers and with authorities in educational institutions.

Serban was an ardent anti-Leftist and would delight in verbally tearing down modern-liberal ideology. to the chagrin of his liberal California students.  No doubt some of this sentiment came from his first-hand view of the Communist horror of his native Romania.  It also appears strongly in the chart.

LibertarianPallas parallel Mercury; Pallas co-ruler Jupiter square Sun; Pallas co-ruler Neptune opposite Mercury
AuthoritarianPallas mundane-square Jupiter
I can't recall a single case in which a mundane square between Pallas and one of her "enemies" was the deciding factor in a political reading.  My suspicion is that Serban might have eventually become a full-on libertarian had he been more interested in the nuts-and-bolts of political-economic theory.

CapitalistNorth Node in the Second House; Venus in Taurus.
Collectivist:  Nothing.
Not a Socialist bone in his body.  More Ayn Rand than Rand herself, astrologically speaking.

LiberalNeptune conjunct IC
Conservative:  Nothing
Not a cultural conservative.  He had no particular drive to preserve any traditional culture outside that of classical music.

From the chart, Serban's Right-wing affiliation comes from a libertarian/anti-authoritarian streak and a strong sense of private property ownership.

Sometime around 1990, Serban began experiencing significant symptoms resembling Parkinson's Disease.  I remember that it started with a persistent tremor in his hands and eventually progressed to a near-complete inability to control his movement.  Around this time, primary direction would have placed the North Node at his Ascendant (karma plus movement) and the Huber Age Point would have been near his Mars / South-Node conjunction.  His progressed Moon would have been parallel with his progressed Mars, two years before which he would have experienced a triple-parallel of the progressed Ascendant, MC, and North Node.

The natal chart also carries many suggestions regarding the nature of the malady.  Many of these aspects are not necessarily disastrous on their own, but the sheer number of them does suggest problems.

Mars (ruler of Sun) conjunct South Node:  eventual loss of physical power and masculine energy, which is strong to begin with.

Mars sesquiquadrate Neptune:  the occultation or disappearance of physical energy?

Neptune opposite Sun:  drained vitality.

Neptune opposite Mercury:  potential trouble with the hands and/or communication?

North Node conjunct Chiron:  possibility of injury/debility later in life.

Saturn conjunct Uranus in the Eleventh House:  difficulties with the nervous system (Uranus).

Serban passed away at home on June 24 2015 sometime before 9pm.   Some of the transits/progressions/etc. he was undergoing at this time:

Huber Age Point conjunct Ascendant:  start of a new cycle.

Transiting Pluto opposite natal Jupiter:  ending/transformation of a journey.

Transiting Pluto trine natal Venus:  a great gift bestowed.

Transiting Uranus square Ascendant and conjunct solar arc Moon:  interruption in life force.

Transiting Chiron conjunct natal Pallas and quincunx natal Chiron:  injury/struggle with intellect.

Transiting Ceres conjunct Moon and sextile Sun; solar arc Ceres quincunx Moon and square Sun:   The Ceres/Sun/Moon triad is often present when persons are kidnapped or taken away

Transiting Mars in the Twelfth House square natal Neptune:  activation of a mystery.

Transiting Venus and Jupiter conjunct natal North Node:  a major boon received.

Progressed Venus conjunct natal Pluto:  value destroyed or massively amplified, or both.

Progressed Moon and solar arc Jupiter conjunct IC:  an ending and a new journey?
